Rebellion was created by Bear Republic’s brewers as a single hop pale ale to showcase the characteristics of new hop varietals and old favorites. Always brewed with the same American and English malts, the soft malt character allows the unique flavor and aroma of the hop to shine.

Draught. Amber and clear. Small white creamy head that clings to the glass. Grapefruit and a little peach. Dry papery flavours. Nice use of bittering hops. A very drinkable pale ale.

Not a bad brew, but nothing fantastic. A bit too much caramel malt and not nearly enough hop flavor or aroma to really fully experience a single hop pale. Got a slight gingery note at one point which I enjoyed, but it only happened in one sip and never found it again.

illidurit (2354) - San Francisco, California, USA - AUG 1, 2011
On tap at burger. in Santa Cruz. Pours a brassy gold color with a nice filmy white head. Pale malty aroma, cereal grains, matzoh, cheerios. Flavor is big on the cheerios maltiness, with cornbread and honey also making appearances under the lightly herbal hop profile. Definitely not hoppy enough for a pale ale, and not even close for a single hop beer. Medium bitterness lingers through finish. Very dry and crackery on the palate. Not sure what the idea here is. Too high in alcohol to be a satisfactory session beer but completely lacking the hop aroma and flavor you’d want in a pale ale so strong.

BrewBoxer (2657) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 25, 2011
Draft at 4th ave pub. Pours a cloudy orange color. No scent really. Taste is sweet with some hops. Almost tastes like its on cask. Orangy and flat with no after taste. Nothing special.

drfabulous (8467) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - JAN 17, 2011
On draught at Broadway. Malty English style like IPA with bready texture and slight pine in nose and taste. Initial sweetness yields to bitterness.

CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 8, 2010
On tap at Frisco Grille in Columbia, MD: Pours a clear golden brass with a creamy froth of small-bubbled white head. Has a clean piny woodsy nose with some light pale malty sweetness. Starts with good fullness for the style and a lightly toasted maltiness with a crisp piny hop flavor before a smooth bittersweet finish. A well-balanced and fairly assertive, yet drinkable APA.

Pwn3d (1962) - Manhattan, New York, USA - OCT 1, 2010
Sampled at Get Real NY, cask ale festival. Didn’t realize this was such a rare breed. Crisp and citrusy.

badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - SEP 10, 2010
Clear golden with a fizzy white head. Citrus grassy aroma with a hint of pine and a grassy bitter taste.
