On tap @ Rattle N Hum - Bear Republic Tap Takeover. This one’s from 2008! Pretty cool being able to try this. In the glass this is a really dark looking on. Deep dark brown looking with a small dark beige head in the top. Oh, this smells pretty amazing. It’s really woody tart sour, it has tones of sour red fruits. Lots of nice sweetish oxidation and a little bit of alcohol. Really good smelling this! Oh, my it’s delicious tasting also! It has a lovely oxidation that binds the flavor wonderfully together. It sweetish cherry like, lots of old earthy blueberries that’s been blended with vanilla, butterscotch blue plums and cranberries. A soft saltiness also present. Lots and lots of flavor here! A wonderful tasting slightly scary one. 17.06.2015

"i have to take issue with the "wild and untamed" portion of the brewers description. other than that, it’s pretty accurate. a darn good beer, wild or not, just not what i was expecting. great malty flavor and aroma, with just a hint of the wildness and spices promised. a dangerously drnkable brew for 9.5%. The Bear’s summer alternative to Blac Bear stout."

Draft. A dark chestnut colored beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, yeast, wood, and wine. The flavor is sweet - a bit too sweet, with notes of malt, caramel, spices, nuts, yeast, and wood, leading to a dry spicy finish.

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Dark brown pour with a thin tan head and very light carbonation. Mildly roasty and rather spicy aroma with a lot of sugar sweetness. Spice and nuts with a big sweet and syrupy flavor at the start with s very nice dark fruit, dark malt and lightly spiced finish. Goes down smooth for nearly 10%.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2010 Tap @ Saraveza... Poured a dark cola looking with a thick, off-white head that retained. Aroma of faint spices, yeast and such. Lots of spice on this brew. Even an earthy, peppery heat towards the finish. Slightly dry and cloying, but made up for it in yeast spiciness. Yeasty, doughy, cookie dough sweetness on the malts which paired nicely with the nutmeg/cinnamon spices.

Draft at Blind Pig Co in Champaign, IL. Pours a deep rich brown with a tan head. Aroma of yeast, belgian malts, and dark fruits. Heavier side of medium bodied with soft to medium carbonation. Flavor of plums, berries, spice, and dark belgian malts. Yeasty and musty finish. Nice beer. Pretty simple and not overly complex.

Tap @ Hamiltons. Opaque dark brown with a small beige ring. Brown sugar, candied apples and roasted malts on the nose. Flavor was fairly sweet, almost cloying, pretty tasty overall.

Tap at BT. Pours a deep dark hazy brown with a thinning head. Aroma is a bit minty earthy bubblegummy phenolics, Belgian yeasty character, toffee, dry roast and toast with some chocolate tones, vanilla, and brown baked/toasted malts- some cookiedough. Flavor is a touch fruity with earth, mineral and sweet nutty chocolate malts, more phenolic slight plastic notes, leather, and some menthol crystal slightly offwith a slight buttery thing going on and cherry cola on the finish. Strange and a bit off overall.
