(Old BA rate -tap) Lightish orange color with a bit of haze. Thin white head. Subdued aromas, and nothing really sticks out beyond the malt aromas which were faint. Really basic and balanced. Pleasant flavors with some fruitiness coupled with the malts. No real hop presence. Thinner MF, not a substantial body. Subtle carbonation. Pretty drinkable. Basic, decently rounded brew. Overall, this wasn’t bad, but nothing to write home about.

Ordered this at Hollingshead instead of a Pliny the Younger. Idiot. For some reason I assumed this would be a smoked, which I have really been enjoying recently. Perhaps it was the name that might have tipped me off... The aroma is kind of fruity with hints of caramel and crisp hops. I guess it might have been a little vegetal too. Poured amber with a thin head. Mild sweetness, caramel, floral earthy finish. Nothing going on here really, would have much rather had a PTY. Fuck.

On tap at Hollingshead Deli in Orange, CA, this is a dark yellow pour with a white head. It’s flavors are subdued, it’s a session beer.

Tap at the Blind Tiger. Dull orange pour, fairly cloudy, with a small ring of a head. Frangrant, floral aroma, leafy greens and mushroom. Flavor has a light mineraliness, straw, earth. Easy drinking but sharp carbonation.

On draft at the Bear Republic Brewpub in Healdsburg, CA this pour came a cloudy yellow to amber color with a small white head typical for a pub pour that left excellent lacing rings The nose on this is the caramel malts and gassy malts typical of a pilsener. Mouthfeel is very clean. Flavor is malts and flowers, and this finish is somewhat bitter. This is a very tasty and easy to drink beer and tastes almost like a good European pils.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Hazy pale amber beer with a thin white head. Aroma is pretty nice. Lightly bready maltiness with just a touch of light fruitiness. A bit of earthy bitterness on the back with just a touch of orange peel. Simple but well-made.

oreogobbler (228) - Austin, Texas, USA - SEP 29, 2008
Pours a super dark transparent orange, thing ring for a head. Pilsener malt aroma and wheat, not much more. ::shrug:: Malty wheat flavor, some smokiness, but it’s very light, there is also a little lemon. It’s very steam ale like. Palate is a bit unbalanced but drinkable. Somewhat tasty.

slimchill (1044) - Austin, Texas, USA - SEP 20, 2008
Draught. Biscuit and pilsener malt aroma, vague caramel character. Clear orange brown with little head. Deep grain flavors, pilsener grassiness with toast, biscuit, and caramel notes. Clean and style-appropriate.

carruthm (1400) - Seattle, Washington, USA - SEP 1, 2008
on tap at Toronado in San Diego, not sure why it’s called what it is because it doesn’t resemble a smoke beer at all. Light visual, light aroma, light on taste. Alright on flavor but lacked much palate.

bb (9789) - Alamo, California, USA - AUG 28, 2008
Draft. Amber beer with an off-white head. Light malt, light mineral aroma. light malt flavor with mineral. light citric, and earth tones. Medium body. Light malt and light mineral tones linger.
