Cask conditioned. Red brown, good cream head and good condition. Massive lingering aroma of chocolate powder from start to finish, intense roast barly and chocolate explosion in the mouth and a long chocolate finish that becomes dry and bitter with time. Will not disappoint if you like stouts.

Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Now then, here’s a beer I almost sampled once before - well I drank something labelled as this beer, only to get home and realise it sounded nothing like the one every other Rater described... Better late than never, and this is actually a Stout worth waiting for, from a brewery who have yet to disappoint me in any way. Good crispy, peppery roast here - with a smooth, asky quality. Very dark brown. Loads of coffee up front. Medium bodied and very creamy. Long dry coffee finish with some bitterness.
A stonking good stout. Chocolate is the key component. Dark, bitter chocolate. I didn’t realise it was an oatmeal stout and I can’t say I detected any significant sweetness that normally comes from the oatmeal. Holds the attention throughout. Full flavoured and forceful, with a lasting, slightly sharp finish.. Cask (gravity dispense), Catford Beer Festival 2005.
