COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wild Oats Series #27. An unfiltered beer brewed with sea salt, coriander and a hint of subtle acidity post fermentation. Aromas of citrus, and slight tartness to taste leads into a curiously salty mouth-feel.

Bottle from Oktoberfest 4 pack. The Gose style has been a bit of a sleeper hit this year. This is one of the more interesting ones. While the aroma is a bit like sniffing an air filter, the actual beer is a refreshing & interesting beer. On one hand, it has an enjoyable herbal & lemon body. On the other hand, there’s a curious tartness in the finish. The salt really becomes evident in the mouth between sips. I quite like it, but I’m sure people will dismiss it because it isn’t another session ipa.

600ml bottle. Gold/banana yellow colour, large poofy head, hazy and unfiltered. Aroma is Herbal Essence soap, coriander and salt water. Tastes like corriander and lime kettle chips. Overall, bottle line, salty beverages aren’t a great idea.

[on cask at Beau’s Oktoberfest, 2012] Aroma of household cleaner and perfumy coriander with some grain. Clear dark yellow with no head. Flavour is sweet, shower soap perfume followed by some graininess. Moderately bitter. I didn’t really like this beer, but I think it’s all in the recipe. Medium body, low carbonation, slightly bitter finish.

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2013 Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a bit of white head. Smell is sea salt, lavender, and a bit of floral hops. Palate is on the lighter side of medium bodied with good carbonation. Taste is slightly sweet at first, then sour, but not too much, and a slightly sour/bitter/sweet aftertaste. Really good! All the good parts of soap and none of the bad.

600 ml bottle from the brewery via Lubiere (merci!), served cool in a tulip glass. 15DE12.

App.: Hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma: Quite a lot of what and esters, like an American Wheat, toasted cereals, a pleasant, perfume0like, tropical fruit aroma, floral, almost like lavender?, pleasant. Palate: Medium-ish body, fairly spunky effervescence. Flav.: Quite a lot of that perfumed, flora, lavender-like note, a bit of wheat and toasted cereal, odd; dry with minimal bitterness, a touch of tang and saltiness with a light, lavender finish.

Haven’t had enough Gose to be sure, but I suspect this isn’t to style. Interesting stuff, and one is enough.

(Rating #4590)
