COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A wheat wine, Ashnan displays great depth of character and complexity. It features bold tannic notes that integrate very well with the tropical fruit flavours. Aging in white wine barrels contributes wood and wine character to the noticeable alcohol presence, and enhances a dry finish. A beer with a wine-imposed identity crisis, Ashnan sits comfortably between, offering the best qualities of both. History & Style Beau’s LCBO Barrel Aged Beer Feature for spring 2014 is inspired by the art and mythology of ancient Mesopotamia. Ashnan was the Mesopotamian goddess of grain, an apt symbol for this barrel aged wheat wine. This rare and relatively new beer style is similar in strength to a barley wine, but with a higher ratio of wheat to barley for a more subtle, less malty flavour. Tasting Notes Ashnan wheat wine pours a light gold colour, and is moderately hopped. This lively, effervescent golden ale abounds in tropical fruit flavours, notably pineapple. The wine-like character is pronounced, with buttery chardonnay aromas giving way to oakiness. The finish is gently warming. Food Pairings Grilled halibut, piri piri chicken, raw oysters, grilled vegetable/chevre wraps Technical Specs ALC./VOL.: 9.8% INGREDIENTS: Local Spring Water, Organic Barley & Wheat Malts, Organic Hops, Brewer’s Yeast. bottle. Cloudy orange with medium sized head. Strong wine flavours, fruity, sweet. Warming alcohol. Decent.

Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - OCT 3, 2014
Copper pour, no head. Aroma is earthy barn, apple, bready Flavour is wheat and crisp fruit on the front of the palate. Turns bad with a musty mildew and wooly weird finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Metalchopz (3384) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 4, 2014
Batch 3074 packaged 2014/02/13. Pours a clean golden-amber colour with a small creamy-foam white head, disappearing quickly enough, but leaving creamy lace. Winy aromas with some sweet grapes, yeast and nutty notes. The taste has the same grapes-raisins combination, so sweet enough, but the malt finishes with a smokiness to it. Nice and bready overall with the fruits coming from the Chardonnay barrels and hints of sourness. Full bodied and smooth, with the alcohol well-hidden. A good wheat wine with the added touch of the wine barrel.

lesifflebiere (1887) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 29, 2014

veronneaupy (241) - Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 26, 2014
Un nez frais avec une odeur de sucre de petits fruits style canneberge fraîche. En bouche, un goût d'alcool, caramel, de bonbons durs. La finale est enveloppant, persistante dans être désagréable. Les arômes restent présents en fin de bouche. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

dfearnley (2134) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 10, 2014
Bottle to wine glass Aroma of green grapes, oak, honey, white wine. Clear light yellowish amber with a thin white ring. Taste is vineous, crabapple, grains, some tartness, and a moderate bitter finish.

Couleur dorée avec un col blanc. Nez de bois, d’alcool de sucre, de céréales et d’agrumes. En bouche le meme mélange assez interessant. Corps moyen. Carbonation moyenne. Un Barley Wine assez interessant.

Bottle - Peach, pineapple and some oak. Cloudy orange gold with a small white head. Sweet tropical fruit, liquor and a long finish. Sweet and rich, not really sure where this fits.

flip_soeperman (880) - NETHERLANDS - JUL 25, 2014
Aroma is vinous with some sweetness, maybe honey. Taste is bit sweet, little bitter. Body is medium to full. Great beer/wine to sip and enjoy. Actually quite subtle, layered and complex.

DuffMan (10421) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 21, 2014
Bottle, shared with Robbie. Medium golden, low white head. Pale malts deliver a sticky-sweet barley-candy body, but there is a lovely vinous character here that provides an almost tart/sour quality, some oaky undertones as well. Interesting, and not as cloying as some wheat wines can be.
