3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from the brewery. From the original bottling (Jan/2011, I believe), so it’s close to two years old, but has held up really nicely. Very dark ruby-brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is really unique - a bit of oxidization has given it a port-like character, along with deep sweet malt and plum pudding notes, and a mild herbal tone. Medium bodied with light but slightly prickly carbonation. Flavour starts with the port-like sweetness promised by the aroma, followed by plum and raisin, a bit of cocoa, and finishing with a herbal and slightly boozy bitterness. Very good!
600ml bottle. Pours a lot of foamy tan head and dissipates to a half inch thick coating. Somewhat weak lacing. Has a dark brown/coppery appearance. Sweet malts and toffee aromas as well as earthy and spiced hops. Flavours are of barley matls, yeast, raisins, more dark fruits with notes of caramel, nuts and toast. Smooth creamy/velvety mouthfeel. Slight warming sensation. Full bodied. With a stronger abv, enjoyed more than the regular "Bog Water". Listigovers (1278) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 12, 2016
Dark beer with tan head. Roasted and herbal scent, interesting, taste has licorice and smoke, herbal and heavy, kind of spicy on the tongue. Full body, big beer. sallysudz (31) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 16, 2016
The nose reminded me of a Belgian triple. Raisins and dates, Belgian yeasts, cola, dark toast, liquorice, fruity esters, Demerara sugar and herbs and spice make up the nose. The taste was very similar to the nose with fruits, spice, toast and Belgian yeasts. The double mash of dark malts, Belgian Trappist ale yeasts and bog myrtle, used in the brewing all lend a character to the brew. Bog father had a medium body with a creamy warming feel. I very much enjoyed this shorlin (721) - St. John’s, Newfoundland, CANADA - OCT 23, 2013
Tasted a small sample at a BeerThief gathering. Red brown beer with little carbonation. Aroma comes off like Dr. Pepper. Very earthy. Almost getting the impression of meat, but I’d had a lot to drink so maybe I was mistaken. Kind of sweet, but with a bitter scrape through to the finish. Not a really full bodied beer. Interesting! 600 ml bottle. Pours a clear ruby reddish brown with a short lasting beige head. Aroma is caramel, spicy and cola. Flavor is raisin, toast, black licorice, bubble gum, burnt caramel, milk chocolate. Finish is subtle bitterness, spice. Lingering spices. Medium body, velvety mouthfeel, weak to average carbonation. Very unique, but I thoroughly enjoyed.

600 ml bottle purchased at the brewery in June 6, 2013. Cola brown, small head. Aroma of raw and sweet barley, other types of sweet herbs, I imagine it would be bog myrtle and yarrow. The taste is a bit the same, but more full-bodied, spicier too, bitterness of salty herbs. It’s a far better father then mine! jksipa (1007) - Newmarket, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 26, 2013
Bomber from the brewery. Pours an opaque brown with a minimal beige head that disappears quickly. Aroma is heavy with chocolate and cola and a touch of alcohol. Hint of red wine and raisins. Taste is all sweetness with some bitterness around the edges so that it is not cloying. The body is lighter than the colour would indicate; slick with moderate carbonation. I was expecting this to have significantly more hop character, but enjoyed it regardless. UM02 (369) - Quebec, CANADA - JUN 16, 2013
Deep tasting smoky malt with a lot of subtle flavours. A bit of sweetness, a little alcoholic heaviness and a few other flavours that are interesting that I can’t quite place or describe. A bit unique and well done. pushkinwow (2889) - Ottawa, CANADA - MAY 30, 2013
Bottle. Hazy mahogany with a biege head. Raisin, malt, some booze, as it warms up you get more plum and some odd vegetable notes. Mild carbonation, moderate body, alcohol and fruitiness carries through, malt dies off a bit. An interesting beer for sure. andrewturba (1190) - Alberta, CANADA - MAY 27, 2013
Pours very cloudy darker brown colour with a moderate off white ring around the glass. Aroma is herbs, moderate maltiness, bready, dried fruits, alcohol and licorice. Flavour is herbal, alcohol, medicine like, dark fruits, toffee, light bitterness and some licorice. Interesting beer, wouldn’t drink it all the time but I’m glad I tried it.
