COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

Has a murky brown like colour, Aromas of fresh pine and spruce, malted and caramel candy. Has a sour taste profile with a tangy zesty finish which is surprising given the aroma on the nose.

On tap at St. Augustines, pours a hazy dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma brings earthy notes, winter spices, and toasted caramel. Flavour is pretty spicy, with winter spices, toasted caramel and light earthy notes. Bog water certainly doesnt sound appetizing but this is pleasant enough. Okay.

Aroma is spicy rye, caramel, lavender, and pepper. Taste is roasted malts, caramel, honey amd fig. A light earthiness arroves on finish with, still, a little pepper spiciness. Appearance is a clear amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

600ml bottle pours an amber brown color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is herbal with some pepper and fruity notes and hints of wood. Taste is a herbal bitterness with a fruity and malty sweetness finishing dry. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, this has to be the best brew that I have had from this style so far. recommended.

Amber brown pour. Medium-full bodied and light sweetness. Medium carbonation. Not for me.

Poured a pretty thick amount of head but went away quick. End up with a thin coat of bubbly head. Has a really dark hazy amber appearance. Something smells a little burnt within aroma, like smokey wood or something to that effect, which is fine. Upon first sip, I was somewhat turned right off with the sourness and bitterness. Sort of like dark cranberries and spicy cloves, nuts, roasted malts. weird. Very sweet and strong bitter aftertaste. Alcohol is slightly apparent, just enough. Once it warmed up a bit, seemed to calm down and went down a bit easier. Dont think I can stomach more than one bottle though. Tastes ok, just not a continuous chugger. Weird mixture of flavours which just didnt sit well with me.

600 ml bought at the brewery on April 29, 2016. Murky orange brown, small head. Fruity herb aroma, earthy notes. Earthy fruit taste, notes of dry green herbs and spruce, herbal bitterness. Fairly impressive gruit ale, it is their speciality!

600 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours barely translucent dark coppery orange with moderate (fizzy) creamy-ish off-white head. The aromas indeed kinda boggy, reminding me of bittersweet bog berries with some kind of candi sugary character. Tastes pretty sweet... Rather strange bitter character I can only associate with something boggy-ish - I reckon thats the myrtle (which, though, as I understand is not really a bog plant). Rather fizzy carbonation and lightish medium body. Interesting to say the least... But not something to down a whole pintful. Or a 600 ml bottle, for that matter. A 5 oz sample is better I guess : )

Decent beer overall. Strong notes of caramel and fruit. Its tart, but not over powering.

(Lot 4874-Emb. 1er fe.16) (1770-110316)

If I wanted to drink sauerkraut juice, I would buy sauerkraut or at least have a bottle of the awful Cuve Des Jacobins Rouge. And I dont want either.
