COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

czar (9094) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 23, 2013
pours hazy dark amber, light brown-reddish with a decent light beige head, some retention. lightly sourish berries, leafy spiciness, nicely toasted malts, tingling citric acidity, short but present grassy finish. hint of sweetness. relatively soft carbonation, light body - some oiliness. original, interesting... and nice!

solidfunk (8964) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - JAN 12, 2013
Pours cloudy red. Smells a little hoppy. The gale adds a different bitter angle to this beer but the overall product is a little gimmicky. Bottle.

blankboy (7699) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 9, 2008
Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a deep ruby-brown with an average size lasting off-white head. Aroma has some fruit, caramel malt and light spices. Flavour of caramel malt, herbal notes, spices and a decent bitter finish. Average bodied. Nice, this was way better then I expected -- kudos to Beau’s.

HogTownHarry (6942) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - MAY 1, 2008
Bottle (750ml ceramic swing-top). Shared by GregClow with blankboy, jerc and tupalev. Deep mahogany with a solid beige creamy head. Dry medium-deep roast cereal grain with some dry floral/herbal bitterness. Taste follows, quite sweet caramel malt with some raisin and light nutshell and wildflower bitterness - on the light side, not boozy, subtle .... Average body, smooth and soft, gently bitter in the finish. A light, roasty, cold-weather treat - my hat is off to you, Beaus - well done!

3.5
Boutip (6385) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 9, 2012
Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma consists of light sugar and caramel notes with light herb undertones. Taste is a mix between a solid malt backbone with some herbs and some light candi sugar. Body is fuller then average with low carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting though some additional carbonation would have helped.

3.4
reebtogi (6277) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 10, 2017
600ml bottle pours an amber brown color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is herbal with some pepper and fruity notes and hints of wood. Taste is a herbal bitterness with a fruity and malty sweetness finishing dry. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, this has to be the best brew that I have had from this style so far. recommended.

3.2
tom10101 (6087) - Quebec, CANADA - MAR 10, 2015
Bottle (600 ml). Split 2-ways with JulienHuxley.

Appearance: Slightly hazy reddish brown with a small to medium persistent beige head and some lacing.

Aroma: Coriander, quite herbal forward, light caramel and light citrusy notes.

Taste: Moderate sweetness. Quite spicy. Herbal presence, caramel, light citrusy notes and light bitterness.

Palate: Medium body. Moderate to medium carbonation. Lingering spicy finish.

Overall: Not the kind of beer I like because it’s dominated by spices. Not awful, but average drinkability at best. Ok.
