COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

600 ml bottle from les arpents verts A: herbacy, with some earthy notes, red fruits. app: clear reddish brown with thick and lasting white head. Good lacing. T/p: med body with light acidic finish. Moderate high carbonation. O: good. Not a fan off gruit beers. This one is in the upper range of the one I had before.

Kauge (1928) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAY 11, 2016
600 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours barely translucent dark coppery orange with moderate (fizzy) creamy-ish off-white head. The aroma’s indeed kinda boggy, reminding me of bittersweet bog berries with some kind of candi sugary character. Tastes pretty sweet... Rather strange bitter character I can only associate with something boggy-ish - I reckon that’s the myrtle (which, though, as I understand is not really a bog plant). Rather fizzy carbonation and lightish medium body. Interesting to say the least... But not something to down a whole pintful. Or a 600 ml bottle, for that matter. A 5 oz sample is better I guess : )

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2012 Échantillon Mondial de la bière 2010. Bouteille 600 ml.

Smells of yeast with moist leaves, caramel, cloves. Marky brown with a white lacy head. Tastes of ripe vegetables with berries, caramel and yeasty finish. Barley. Tastes like a barley wine but with less sweetness. Herbal

Thanks to cfrancis for this. Pours a murky brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma of sweet dried fruits, spicy herbs, pine. Taste is yeast and cloves, some sourness then has some sweetness and fruity notes. Interesting beer that is easy to sip on.

AgentAle (1726) - Alberta, CANADA - FEB 18, 2017
Aroma is spicy rye, caramel, lavender, and pepper. Taste is roasted malts, caramel, honey amd fig. A light earthiness arroves on finish with, still, a little pepper spiciness. Appearance is a clear amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

pootzboy (1713) - Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 20, 2010
Sampled at Mondial: Puts a turbid rusty-brown ale in the glass, small 1finger tan cap laces modestly.. Lightly carbonated. Pungent aroma: musty-toffee-citrusy-floral, dried fruit-herbs, spices, smoked almonds...wonderful mélange of aromas. Like a herbal brown ale. Flavor profile is almost replica of the aroma but more intense: toasty-nutty-toffee malts provide a base to balance off lemony-herbal bittering and a wonderful complexity of musty-spicy-malty-fruity-nutty flavors....long wet finish. This has a wonderfully quirky complexity that is sure to be misunderstood by unseasoned palates but for those who can appreciate the melding of a number of uncommon complimentary flavors, this is a brew you can relish and not be shy about having a couple.
