COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2012 2012-11-29. Hazy dark brown body with a nice tan head and lace. 3+ Sweet mild aroma light malt, sort of muted spice touches. 6+ Mild flavour of sweet malt, muted fruit and soft spice that may have been subliminal. 3++ Smooth average bodied palate. Enjoyable but a bit too mild overall. 6/3/6/3/12+ On cask? at Amsterdam Movember Event

2008-05-01. Dark brown body with a nice tan head. (3+) Pleasant aroma is brown ale-esque. Light herbal-greenery notes (presumably the bog myrtle?), spice, dusty malt notes in the back. (6+) Sweet malty flavour with light notes of sugar or caramel. Modest herbal finish, light spice. Smooth palate is slightly fuller than average. (3+) I like it, I don’t love it, partly because of the herbal nature which I find I like more or less at various points throughout the glass. Still, overall its a pretty solid effort with more flavour than than their flagship brew. Nice. 7/3/7/3/15 3.5 Bottle shared by GregClow<P> "That should be their slogan. Front Line Assembly... Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a deep ruby-brown with an average size lasting off-white head. Aroma has some fruit, caramel malt and light spices. Flavour of caramel malt, herbal notes, spices and a decent bitter finish. Average bodied. Nice, this was way better then I expected -- kudos to Beau’s.

On cask at Vole. Pours a medium amber brown. Aroma is quite earthy with some malt and spicyness. Taste is similar with lots of malt sweetness and some interesting flavours backing it up. Whether it is earthyness or spicyness it definitely lives up to its name. An interesting beer but I’m not quite sure I really love it.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2012 Échantillon Mondial de la bière 2010. Bouteille 600 ml. Couleur brune foncé, mousse beige. Arôme de malt, houblons, un peu de fruits et levures. En bouche, fraîche, malt, fruits qui coupe la levure belge. Finale herbeuse, fruitée et tout s’arrête rapidement. Bonne beer.

I love it just for being so different. Nice light malt up front, maybe a hint of caramel (not much). Middle is more like dark fruits (plums, maybe even prunes). Finish is almost minty. Light in the mouth with almost no carbonation. Very interesting beer.

600 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a cloudy rusty brown with fairly large light tan head. Aroma of Belgian yeast - spice/fruit - with an interesting earthy herbal character that must be the myrtle. Flavour has lots of the same presumably myrtle note with apple/pear, bit of banana, bread and spice. Carbonation is rather light. I enjoyed this.

pours hazy dark amber, light brown-reddish with a decent light beige head, some retention. lightly sourish berries, leafy spiciness, nicely toasted malts, tingling citric acidity, short but present grassy finish. hint of sweetness. relatively soft carbonation, light body - some oiliness. original, interesting... and nice!

The best gruit I have drank so far (I rated their Bog Father a bit higher but that is a hybrid not a pure gruit). This might not be to everyone’s taste but they got the gruit right and balanced it well with the malt (I have drank some truly horrible gruit). A mild caramel nose followed by an earthy bitterness and some spice in the aftertaste. I don’t think gruit will ever take back its place from hops either with the general public or in my heart but when done well can produce a very nice drinkable beer like this one.

Bière cuivrée, rougeâtre, limpide, coiffée d’une mousse crème à fines bulles. L’effervescence surprend.

I’m a big hop fan, but I liked this one! Unique twist on herbal beer, still carries decent bitterness, wild and herbal plant flavours add a uniqueness that a wild yeast would add to a sour. In the end it still tastes like a beer, but with some spicy herbal flavours you just can’t put your finger on. Not overpowering.
