Very disappointing. Beaus usually brews great beers. I cant even begin to describe how bad this one is because it brings back that disgusting taste.
I was eager to try this Gruit after trying the Heather Legend from Cassel which did quite a good impression. Iím happy to say that the positive trend continues. A bit like a spiced beer, but a more natural taste to it, more blended into the drink, more refined. Definitely a special taste with the myrtle, I wonder if I could age this beer. Quite unique, with a smoothness that reminds you of the Belgian ones. BrewWhatIWant (189) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 30, 2017
Pours hazy copper colour with a thin tan head, looks like bogwater. Aroma is floral or herbal. Taste is sweet with a slightly bitter, sour finish. There are notes of caramel, herbs, and clover. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Thereís an odd, off putting herbal finish (likely the myrtle) which really prevents this from being better than it is. Looks ugly with a dull, light brown and just a thin head. Heavily phenolic, bubblegum nose is wonky. It has a reasonably full body, touch of bitterness, not a lot of bog myrtle character. Neutered gruit, doesnít really go far enough in terms of herbal character and is too ale-like. fiulijn (20424) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 7, 2017
Draught at St. Augustineís, VancouverBigfFatBeerLover81 (34) - St. Thomas, Ontario, CANADA - APR 1, 2017
Brown color, hazy, dull. Some sweet caramel, but the myrtle is really strong, and to me it tastes like dish soap, the mouthfeel too is soapy in the final. Alcohol feeling.
Thereís a reason if these beers and methods have been forgotten.
One of the worst tasting beers of all time. They claim to use an older method of brewing this one, somethings that are forgotten were done so for a reason. If you get someone from work you hate for a secret santa, this is a great gift.

On tap at St. Augustineís, pours a hazy dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma brings earthy notes, winter spices, and toasted caramel. Flavour is pretty spicy, with winter spices, toasted caramel and light earthy notes. Bog water certainly doesnít sound appetizing but this is pleasant enough. Okay. Aroma is spicy rye, caramel, lavender, and pepper. Taste is roasted malts, caramel, honey amd fig. A light earthiness arroves on finish with, still, a little pepper spiciness. Appearance is a clear amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well. reebtogi (6240) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 10, 2017
600ml bottle pours an amber brown color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is herbal with some pepper and fruity notes and hints of wood. Taste is a herbal bitterness with a fruity and malty sweetness finishing dry. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, this has to be the best brew that I have had from this style so far. recommended. jennawieser (11) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 6, 2017
Amber brown pour. Medium-full bodied and light sweetness. Medium carbonation. Not for me. AleRider78 (1046) - Winchester, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 29, 2016
Poured a pretty thick amount of head but went away quick. End up with a thin coat of bubbly head. Has a really dark hazy amber appearance. Something smells a little burnt within aroma, like smokey wood or something to that effect, which is fine. Upon first sip, I was somewhat turned right off with the sourness and bitterness. Sort of like dark cranberries and spicy cloves, nuts, roasted malts. weird. Very sweet and strong bitter aftertaste. Alcohol is slightly apparent, just enough. Once it warmed up a bit, seemed to calm down and went down a bit easier. Donít think I can stomach more than one bottle though. Tastes ok, just not a continuous chugger. Weird mixture of flavours which just didnít sit well with me.
