This collaborative project from Beau’s All Natural Brewing and Bridgehead Coffee brings together a strong doppelbock beer and a blend of three flavourful organic fair-trade coffees to create a bold taste and aroma.

History & Style

The base beer for this offering is a traditional dark German doppelbock, brewed to 8% abv. Coffee was steeped in the kettle after boiling to add a whole new dimension of complex flavours.

Tasting Notes

Aromas and flavours of chocolate, dried fruit, warming alcohol and burnt toffee meld with pronounced, pure coffee flavours. Chocolate and coffee linger on the palate after each sip.

A hazed brown bock with a thick receding brown head. In aroma, sweet fruit carmale with dark fruits and coffee, resinous and pleasant. light woody character, surprising. In mouth, nice caramel malt with good mocha coffee, sweet, caramelly, and pleasant. Bottle is about 2 years old and still going strong.

Orange with a bubbly head. Above average mouthfeel. Funky aroma which is fine for the style. A good drinker, smooth and a nice sourness not expected from such sweet fruit.Very good sour, thanks Jason.

2012-03-29. Nice brown head, small beige head. 3+ Massive coffee flavour and aroma dominates, with very little of the base beer coming through. Average plus palate is smooth, softly carbonated. This is coffee with beer in it and not the other way around, which was thoroughly appreciated by those around me who like that sort of thing. I was not unfortunately one of them. Jeebus! [4359-20120329] Tap. Coffee grounds and roasted woody grains aroma. Dark red brown body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. SUPER coffee roast grounds flavour is like a cup of beery coffee with a shot of concentrated dark coffee. Full bitter body. So amazing if you’re a coffee drinker, I couldn’t rave about it enough. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement onctueuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Présence de café en arrière goût. (Rating #4380)

Bottle [600ml] shared with GregClow at Wvrst. Pours a very deep amber with a small semi-lasting frothy/creamy off-white (or tan) head -- it was dark in here so it’s my best guess. Big coffee aroma, and mostly just coffee, along with some notes of chocolate, light roasted malt, cream and dark fruit. Flavour is also big-time coffee along with some lightly roasted caramel malt, chocolate and a hint of dark fruit. Roasty, bitter coffee finish. The alcohol is totally hidden. Medium bodied, almost-creamy mouthfeel. In a blind taste-test I would swear this was a thinner Coffee Porter but regardless of how you want to classify it, either way it’s really good -- if you like coffee of course.

@ BEAULO , bottle 750ml
Aroma Wooo! Plenty of coffee, dry nose, dry character. Potent caffeine in your face. Instant fix. 8-
Appearance dark amber-copper look. Clear. Medium yet short lived top.
Flavor and Palate : I don’t need coffee anymore was my first thought…Dry coffee roast, basic bold in your face smack. Chewy long lasting character with solid malt Base. Because of its intensity it’s good to split 750 with your friends.
