This collaborative project from Beaus All Natural Brewing and Bridgehead Coffee brings together a strong doppelbock beer and a blend of three flavourful organic fair-trade coffees to create a bold taste and aroma.

History & Style

The base beer for this offering is a traditional dark German doppelbock, brewed to 8% abv. Coffee was steeped in the kettle after boiling to add a whole new dimension of complex flavours.

Tasting Notes

Aromas and flavours of chocolate, dried fruit, warming alcohol and burnt toffee meld with pronounced, pure coffee flavours. Chocolate and coffee linger on the palate after each sip.

[4359-20120329] Tap. Coffee grounds and roasted woody grains aroma. Dark red brown body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. SUPER coffee roast grounds flavour is like a cup of beery coffee with a shot of concentrated dark coffee. Full bitter body. So amazing if youre a coffee drinker, I couldnt rave about it enough. 600ml bottle. Large tan head, dark brown amber colour. Smell is strong, good quality coffee. Taste is pretty much just coffee. but it was really good. Alcohol was masked really well. Overall, it lacks complexity but it was really tasty.

Bottle [600ml] shared with GregClow at Wvrst. Pours a very deep amber with a small semi-lasting frothy/creamy off-white (or tan) head -- it was dark in here so its my best guess. Big coffee aroma, and mostly just coffee, along with some notes of chocolate, light roasted malt, cream and dark fruit. Flavour is also big-time coffee along with some lightly roasted caramel malt, chocolate and a hint of dark fruit. Roasty, bitter coffee finish. The alcohol is totally hidden. Medium bodied, almost-creamy mouthfeel. In a blind taste-test I would swear this was a thinner Coffee Porter but regardless of how you want to classify it, either way its really good -- if you like coffee of course.

Aroma Wooo! Plenty of coffee, dry nose, dry character. Potent caffeine in your face. Instant fix. 8-
Appearance dark amber-copper look. Clear. Medium yet short lived top.
Flavor and Palate : I dont need coffee anymore was my first thoughtDry coffee roast, basic bold in your face smack. Chewy long lasting character with solid malt Base. Because of its intensity its good to split 750 with your friends.

A hazed brown bock with a thick receding brown head. In aroma, sweet fruit carmale with dark fruits and coffee, resinous and pleasant. light woody character, surprising. In mouth, nice caramel malt with good mocha coffee, sweet, caramelly, and pleasant. Bottle is about 2 years old and still going strong.

[bottle from brewery] Sweet coffee and faint cereal malt aroma with apple and brown sugar accents. Clear red-brown with a tawny patch and thick ring. Creamy and slightly spicy melanoidin malt flavour with a pungent coffee backbone. Delicate, well-balanced between subtle bitter coffee and sweet malt. Chocolate and nut notes. Light to medium body, medium carbonation, lingering bitterness in the finish.

Tried this one at the Bridgehead on Sparks street in Ottawa, February 2012 (as their launch to this brew). Pours a deep copper colour with a creamy off-white head that is long lasting. The nose had great cacao scent with coffee notes and light fruitiness. The taste has nice coffee hints with smooth bitterness. Pretty nice collaboration with these two great local brewmasters.

Clear dark brown, small beige head. Aroma of well, yes, coffee. Also some nice nutty, caramel malts. Flavour is very mich all coffee, but unlike a stout, there is no roasty, just a sweet nuttiness, with toffee notes. Nice stuff.
