COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beau’s flagship offering is Lug Tread Lagered Ale, named after the tire treads of a small tractor, a true symbol of Eastern Ontario. Golden-hued, crisp and finely balanced, Lug Tread is a tribute to “Kölsch” the classic beer of Cologne, Germany. Lug Tread is top fermented (like an ale) and then cold aged, or “lagered”, for a lengthy period. This gives it some light ale notes, complemented by a lager-like crispness.

Meh. It isn’t bad for a lager, but who needs another lager? I do like the hoppy spice notes.

Jaune un brin doré, un tantinet voilé. Petit col discret.

On tap at Hunah Day. Pours a clear gold with small white head that lasts. The aroma is corn, straw, wheat. Medium body, corn malt, wheat, light crisp finish, decent.

Draft at Cooper’s. Clear gold thin white head. Average lacing. Grass, herbal notes and some pale malt. Crisp, clean, and fairly hoppy. Can’t complain, hits what I’m looking for in the style pretty well.

Drank so many times, never rated? Clear light gold sparkling pour with lively white head. Smells and tastes of fresh floral hops, some slight bitterness, high carbonation for maximum refreshment... Goes down smooth with a nice dry grain finish. Tasty!

600ml brown bottle. Fairly clear yellow appearance. Small white head on top fades fast and leaves no lacing. Nose has grains, caramel and bready malt. Taste is grainy and bready, a little caramel. Simple, nice, drinkable.

Appearance: clear straw with one fat finger of fizzy white head diminishing to a persistent cap, moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: pale crackery malt, bready yeast, light citrus and floral. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter. (7/10) Light body, lively carbonation, crisp clean finish. (3/5) Clean, crisp and easy-drinking. It’s not going to challenge you, by any means, but it’s one you can easily session. The style is classic Kölsch, top-fermented with an ale yeast, but cold conditioned (“lagered”), making it a true hybrid style. The brewer says this one is done with (among others) pilsner and acidulated malts, in addition to wheat and carafoam. I’m not certain I’ve had one done with acidulated malt before, and I’m tempted to attribute at least some of the crispness in the finish to that, though I wouldn’t go so far as to call it actually tart. Pleasant enough, if a little pedestrian, and certainly one that wouldn’t be unwelcome under an umbrella on a hot day. (13/20)

Hazy, golden. The aroma has some herbal continental hop, mellow pale malt. Has a dryish character with the same pale malt, a lighter hop and a touch of grainy sourness. It’s that sour grainy stuff that sorts of drags this beer down in the finish.

600ml bottle. Pours a clear golden colour with a half-finger of white soapy head. Nose of caramel malts, bready, stonefruit. Crisp, malt and slightly sweet. Smooth, clean, crisp. The first Beau’s offering I’ve ever seen on sale in NS; may it be the first of many.

ComradeK (1165) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - OCT 1, 2016
660ml bottle. Pours a clear medium gold, with a medium white head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. The aroma has light herb and stone fruit hops, with white bread and caramel malt. Light fruit hops up front give way to a medium bodied mix of grainy and caramel malt, with a fairly short finish. Very sessionable, although not the most interesting beer out there.

On tap at Moon Under Water, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out crisp crackery malt and light cereal sweetness. Flavour is crisp and refreshing, with crackery malt and lightly sweet cereal notes. Not much to describe, as it’s a kolsch. Decent for what it is.
