Wild Oats No. 24 What else do you call a Maibock when it’s brewed for Oktoberfest? Pours a bright orange gold colour with notes of biscuit, candy sweetness, peppery alcohol and spicy hop bitterness.

A hazed amber bock with a thin white head. In aroma, mix of lemon pulp and honey with nice grassy hops. In mouth, a nice smooth grassy malt with Belgian hops, honey, wheat, nice. Cask at Beau’s Oktoberfest Sept 29 2012.

Bottle from private Beaus ordering club. Light orange with whisp of bubbly head. Looks, smells, cheesy. Also some egg aroma suggesting sulphide. Some hops and sourness. Leaves lace. Not very drinkable.

2012-10-08. Crisp dark golden orange body with a nice creamy off-white to beige head. 3+ Sweet pale malt flavour, finishes fairly dry, lightly bitter and mildly alcoholic. Malty aroma of pale malt, lightly "spice malt quality to it. Average plus palate, suitable carbonation 3+ Pretty decent example of the style, but it is not a style I am overly fond of. On tap at Brewmarket, Brick Works, Toronto

My Bottom Line :
This perfectly authentic and deeply malty Heller Bock develops biscuity, honeyed depths in a crisp and highly drinkable vehicle.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A slim veil of foam settles atop the amber-hued golden.
-The mouthfeel is fluffy, beautifully sharing the malts’ intricacies.
-Herbal hops balance out the honeyed malts.
-This ratings page is more of an indictment of the Heller Bock style than it is an appreciation of this spot-on example.

Pale orange pour. Aroma of sweet pale malt. Some sort of dirty yeast character that lends a kind of muddy flavour. A bit of sweet pale malt. A sort of earthy/herbal hoppiness along with a touch of pepper. It’s a pretty decent example of a style I just can’t enjoy. Meh.

[4855-20121008] Bottle. Lightly crushed grainy green peas aroma. Slightly hazy, golden orange body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Beery grainy yeast flavour has a lingering dough sourdough twang. Medium body. Average. (6/3/7/3/14) 3.3

Pretty decent. Continues the beaus tradition of doing average styles of beer pretty well. The reason this comes around is mostly due to a great barley malt profile. It mingles well with the pepper aroma and a light bit of booze. Pours cloudy orange with decent head and lacing. Finishes crisp and a little bitter with sweet boozy malt appropriate to style. Well done. Tap at Arrow and Loon.

pours clear golden with a small white cap, little retention and lacing. sweet and kind of biscuity malts, floral, grassy and citrusy, some candi and malt sweetness, almost cloying. cardboard, phenolic and awkward astringent finish - short to medium long, creamy soft carbonation. not refreshing, slightly boozy and almost cloying. a bit disappointed.

(Rating #4688)

Bottle [600ml]. Pours a clear deep golden-orange with a large diminishing frothy white head with good lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, grassy hops, citrus, honey and big herbal notes. Grassy flavour along with honey, malt, grain and herbs. More bitter then expected. Average to medium bodied. Not what I expected from a beer with "bok" in the name, and hoppier then expected as well, but its a pretty good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
