COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sargon is a ginger beer that has been partially barrel aged in rum barrels. This fun and flavourful twist on an English Ale is our brewers’ interpretation of the classic rum-and-ginger beer combo called a “Dark & Stormy.” Organic ginger contributes the signature aromatics of this spice, along with a snappy heat. An aging in cognac/rum barrels adds the final touches to Sargon. History & Style Beau’s LCBO Barrel Aged Beer Feature for spring 2014 is inspired by the art and mythology of ancient Mesopotamia. Sargon is the name of a legendary warrior-king whose dynasty controlled Mesopotamia for more than a century. We took inspiration for Sargon from the English Ale style, and added a ginger-and-rum flavour infusion. Tasting Notes Pours deep orange to copper in colour, with a dry finish. Ginger is dominant in this sessionable ale that offers fresh root aroma and snappy, peppery taste. Sweet malt provides a balanced counterpoint. The finish is clean and slightly bracing with gently lingering rum notes. Food Pairings Jerk chicken, roti, satays or pad thai with peanut sauce, La Sauvagine cheese, crème caramel

March 21, 2014 - with blankboy, gregclow, mabel and jercraigs - 600ml bottle. Hazy deep orange with a large and lasting thick creamy beige head. Aroma of light ginger, slightly milky but very floral - somewhat sweet, but I like the subtle ginger (rum?). Taste is mostly strong ginger and floral bitterness - want more! - was like a ginger popsicle - I resented not having the whole damned bottle - fantastic stuff. Light, acidic sticky mouthfeel, average carbonation .... so crisp, tart and floral.

Bottle, about a year old at this point. Dark amber with a bubbly orangy/tan head. Yeasty, light rum, ginger, birch, pepper and some lemon rind, full carbonation and thinner body, spiced and slightly bitter.

Pours a hazy golden-amber colour with a huge creamy off-white cap, very long lasting with thick foamy lacing. Aromas are sour with the rum notes in the background. And in the back of this... is the very light ginger. Even soapy hops are almost as present. Did not taste the ginger at first, but as you get into it, it does appear, and the beer gets cloudier. Refreshing, interesting and not the typical ginger beer we are use to. Just not sure if the little sourness is infection or not, as I have never had a bad beer from this great brewery.

600 ml bottle shared with the boys. Pours a clear orangeish copper with a thick, resilient white head. Aroma is ginger, tart, woody and dry. Flavor is ginger, fruity, pepper, menthol and wood. Finish is ginger, wood, leathery. Lingering ginger and fruits, along with some pepper and wood. Light to medium body, creamy mouthfeel, strong carbonation.

(Rating #6030)

czar (9085) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 22, 2014
pours hazy bright golden orange with an abnormal off-white head, good retention and lacing. loads of perfumey and candied ginger, ginger snaps, sweet toasted spiciness, wheat, fruity maltiness - orange marmelade, some red grapes astringency and woodsy barreling notes - hint of maple syrup and demerara too, yeast. sparkling and disturbing carbonation, light body, lightly tannic and very spicy finish. should carbonation be of brewer’s intention to mimick ginger soda, alrighty then, but this falls a bit short as to barrel ageing premises.

Bottle - 600ml. Slightly hazy amber body with a good off-white foamy head. Fresh malty/hoppy aroma with ginger and flowery hints. Its sharp hoppy taste carries citrusy, coriander, and ginger notes. Ends with a good bitter/sour finish. Very similar to a Saison.
