Pour a maple syrup brown with an ugly offwhite bubbly head that fortunately receeds into nothing but a small rim that doesn’t leave much lacings. Aroma is composed of a little hops and a lot of malt sweetmess. Taste is somehow bitter but with a malty sweetness to match. The balance is a little too much toward malt for my likings but it is still quite drinkable and not cloying. Not getting much barrel aromatics/flavors but it does feel different from a classic DIPA so there must be something I’m missing in there. Not bad, not great.
Bottle from Best of 2015 4-pack. Pours maple syrup brown with a rich mushy cap that fades. Muted aromas. Maple sugar, caramel malts, bitter hops & subtle oak aging. Delicate mouthfeel. Very rich & syrupy but the bitterness balances it out. Very malt forward. Think I enjoy this more than the bourbon barrel version. Many will dismiss this because it isn’t west coast enough & really it doesn’t quite fit the bill of a DIPA but its still enjoyable as a well made strong ale. Aroma:strong, alcohol warmth with solid dose of hops, good aromatic vibe at end. Soft finish.
Top: medium lighter, off white tanned cap. Some lace noted on glass.br>
Base: amber gold, cloudy
Palate : full bodied, silky, drinkable. It does have lighter carbonation than most. Fairly long finish.
Taste: hefty, fairly sweet but I would not call it cloying. Straight forward hoppy character on top. Nice straight strong bitter ale.
600 ml bought at the brewery on December 17, 2015. Ruby gold, small head. Hoppy oak aroma, fairly sweet. Hoppy red fruit taste, some notes of wood, mildly bitter. The oak aged works well with this IIPA! ametras (1631) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 22, 2015
600ml bottle. Hazy copper with a frothy beige head. Flavors are toasted cereals, overripe borderline rotten tropical fruits, caramel, melon, pine resin, spicy wet socks and alcohol with woodsy notes. Gorgeous deep copper pour with a thick, frothy head. Smells like ... brown sugar? This is different from any IPA I’ve ever had, British or West Coast. I’d call this a desser beer, and a tasty one at that. Well done.

A DIPA with a difference. Starts with a fairly mild malt and vegetal nose. Beautiful orange/amber body with a thin well laced white head. The brown sugar malt leads the taste profile but quickly gets more challenging with gnarley grapefruit and earthy hops, prunes, vegetal, oak and woody elements. Some challenging tastes, but Beau’s isn’t afraid of doing that. There is a slight warmth from the booze, strong effervescence and a slight metallic edge as well. The blend keeps coming together as the beer breaths and approaches room temperature. Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a giant head with great retention (also a little bit of gushing was noticed which makes me wonder if the bottle was infected). Aroma of caramelized malt with earthy hops is OK. Taste is dominated by sweet caramelized malt with some earthy hops notes. Body is pretty full with lots of carbonation. Bottle, shared by Shea at game night with heavylaevy, TvM, phantomhennes, and others. Dark orange-amber, hazy, with a low beige head. Aroma is malty and woody. The flavours here are sweet fruity caramel, with a marmalade quality, some woody/earthy undertones. Not getting any hop signature at all, and there is only modest bitterness in the finish. Does not taste like a double IPA but nevertheless a quite interesting and well done beer. It has a pleasant malt taste with a distinctive oak flavour and a good water base indicative of a brewery with a very good source of water. There is some hop bitterness but nothing close to the claimed 99 IBU or even that of a typical DIPA. It is very well balanced and perhaps the oak flavour in the malt neutralizes some of the hop bitterness. The high alcoholic content is not noticeable at all. Some expecting a typical DIPA might be disappointed but judged on its own merits it is a fine and somewhat original beer. Randy4Beer (513) - - MAR 19, 2014
First up this thing does not smell, or taste like any IPA I have ever had, let alone a Double IPA.
On the nose I got a little bit of a turpentine/chemical smell, but got a lot of other things including, strangely for an IPA, some brown sugar and malt.
Taste wise it is just not an IPA. More bready, with hints of vegetable.
