The Monkey’s Paw is an unfiltered wheat beer, modelled after the famous witbiers (white beers) of Belgium. The refreshing zesty citrus and spice character of the yeast is amplified with orange peel and coriander, and elderflower and hibiscus add in a delicate bouquet of floral notes. Beau’s Pro-Am Series is a salute to homebrewers, true innovators of our craft. These beers are designed by amateur brewers, and brewed at Beau’s. The Monkey’s Paw was brewed in collaboration with Jared Carlberg, winner of the 2013 Vankleek Hill Oktoberfest Homebrew Competition. Congrats Jared!

Bottle 600ml. Pours hazy golden with low white head. Good lacing. Aroma is of flowers, fruits, wheat. Taste is of wheat, fruits, cardboard, some acidity. Palate:Light-medium body. Soft carbonation. Overall: OK. Somewhat spicy. Does not seem at it’s best. Will probably re-rate.

Bottle shared by Minderbinder, thanks bro! Pours a cloudy and almost murky golden with a white rim that leaves good lacing. Nose is really spicy with caramel taking a close second place. Some fruits as well and it strangely feels oxidated. Taste is of caramel, butterscotch, banana and alcohol. Body is medium and carbonation low to medium. Meh. Not recognizable as a witbier, more like a dunkel-something.

bottle shared by minderbinder, thanks! pours hazy/cloudy light golden with a small white creamy white cap, some retention and lacing. orange juice, phenols, astringent herbs, yeast - spices, doughy spicy caramel maltiness, woodsy coconut, fruity lightly astringent berries. average carbonation, light body; semi-sweet herbal-spicy finish. sweetish phenolic berry wit. nah.

On tap. Spicy coriander and light orange and slightly reminiscent of household cleaner. Cloudy dark yellow under a persistent white sheet and lace. Flavour is fairly bitter with some spicy pepper phenolics and some herbal notes. Medium light body, medium carbonation.

[Draught at Bar Hop, Nov. 27] Pours a murky yellow with a small lasting creamy white head. Simple, mild aroma of Belgian yeast, bubblegum, a good amount of fruit, cereal grain and light spices. Wheaty flavour with light Belgian yeast, very light hops and some light spices. Medium bodied. Pretty good, it just doesn’t leave much of an impression.

(Rating #6010)

On tap at Beau’s Oktoberfest 2014. After all the speciality cask offerings this was a refreshing, simple and yet incredibly well done beer to sip on. Cloudy orange with creamy off white head, banana, cloves, wheat, coriander, yeast, some cloves, moderate carbonation and light body with a slight bitterness and crisp finish.

600 ml bottle from the brewery via Lubiere (merci!), served cold in a tulip glass. 12NO14.

App.: Murky golden with a thin white head. Aroma: Quite estery/fruity with some bread dough and yeast, a bit spicy, pleasant. Palate: Medium-ish body, relaxed carbonation. Flav.: Estery, lightly spicy, a bit of wheat and yeast; dry with minimal bitterness and a decently fruity finish.

A nice little Wit.
