Pours a deliciously thick black with an amazing hop burst rising out of the glass. Packed with the pungent fruit of citra hops the beer’s backbone holds it up well. Exquisitely balanced, with a moderate roast character letting the hops do the bittering. There is sweetness in there but exactly the right amount. This is a hell of a beer.
Unfiltered and unpasteurised can. Medium off white head. Mahogany to black body. Some bits of yeast floating about. Nose is grapefruit, roasted malt, milk chocolate, Turkish Delight, pink fruit and tropical fruit. Bubblegum and plum. Taste is bitter, with some sweet notes and some tanginess. Dry finish. Moderate carbonation. Delicious.Doesn't show its strength. FraekkeFyr87 (790) - - JAN 9, 2018
The aroma is full of hops, citrus, roasted malt, coffee and caramel. The color is pitch black and the head is khaki colored and fluffy. The taste is full of hops, citrus, roasted malt, coffee, caramel and orange peel. A nice beer! Alebarasi (179) - Dobrova, SLOVENIA - DEC 24, 2017
Dark brown color with a two-finger high, creamy white head. Medium body, well carbonated, a lot of lacing. Fruity aroma of caramel, pine, pineapple, resins, hops, grains, coffee and floral scents. Fairly sweet, slightly bitter and hoppy taste of tropical fruits, pine, caramel, grass, lemon zest, roasted malts, some coffee and tobacco. One well done and hoppy BIPA. First black IPA. A curious concoction. Both very malty and very hoppy bitter. A fairly challenging drink, and not seemingly in the winter evening category which stouts and porters fill. Interested to try more. Smithld1 (350) - Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 21, 2017
2/3 arbitrager. Decent black IPA. I was expecting a bit more flavour to be honest but very palatable. Not particularly hoppy or malty cervmagpt (931) - PORTUGAL - NOV 14, 2017
Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 21B-black). Can 33 cl - Batch L1529 (BB 25.11.17). AROMA: medium roasted malt notes (cocoa) with medium-low fresh like hop aroma (pine-like). APPEARANCE: very dark amber color and clear. medium ivory head with good retention. TASTE: similar to the aroma with a balanced flavor of roasted malt (coffee like) and a fresh hop presence (citrus-like). medium-high bitterness with a roasted and bitter finish. PALATE: medium-light body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: altough its nearing its best before date, still has a lot of very nice notes. danrowland (34) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 23, 2017
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2017 Chocolate brown with floating yeasties. Huge tight beige head.
Aroma, plenty of stoned fruits, fleshy at first with dried cranberries, dates and apricot to follow. A subtle smokiness once the head fades, toffee undertones and some tobacco. Complex as fuck. Sticky, oily texture. Big hop flavour with smoky chocolate and woody malts. Crisp juicy fruit too that’s quintessential to BT brews. An array of flavours that slide into a long bitter finish. Immense blend. bam023 (43) - - OCT 23, 2017
