Keg & Bottled Conditioned; Special - Alpha Series. Dated 19 December 2012.

Malt: Pale, Pale Chocolate, Crystal, Oats, Carafa II
Hops: Magnum, Mt Hood, Summit
This Stout has a load of late hop additions to bring that zest and poke to the nose. Beautiful delicate coffee and chocolate notes lie in the smooth character of the malts.

Clear dark brown colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, sweet malt, wood, light burnt. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, sweet malt, roasted, wood, dark malt, licorice notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130327]

Bottled (from Ales By Mail). Very deep brown, close to black colour with a mediumsized creamy beigeish brown colour. Aroma is roasted malts, some mild vegetably notes, liquorice, tar and mild smoked wet wooden notes. Flavour is liquorice, roasted malts, some toffee and mild ashy and burnt wooden notes. Also some mild meaty notes as it warms up.

Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Minerally crisp palate, semi dry. Roasty malt with a little coffee but not much bitterness. Thin malt cream and a mild lactose note. Whisper of orange hops. Smooth semi dry finish. Rich malts in a thin palate.

Keg at BrewDog Shoreditch, London during the Beavertown event. Pours rich brown with a small, tan cream head. Lots of dry, charred wood on the nose, some baking cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, chalky chocolate, eatrh, good roast, char. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry and roasty finish, dark chocolate, burnt wood, earthy bitterness, hints of dark fruits. Really solid stout.
