Bottle from Redmonds. Lush black pour with scarlet highlights, tan head dissipates a but quick but laces the glass nicely. Chocolate, dark fruits and a hint of smoke in the aroma. Lush flavour, big dark chocolate gives some bitterness and heavy roasted malt for some chewiness, dark ripe cherries, salty toward the finish, with some warming alcohol. Mouthfeel is super lush, coats the tongue, finish rolls on forever. Brilliant. oh6gdx (26488) - Vasa, FINLAND - MAR 6, 2015
Bottled. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is tobacco, some mild roasted notes, a bit alcohol, ripe fruits and some slight toasted notes. Flavour is toasted malts, some tobacco, ripe fruits, some mild toffee/fudge and a bit alcohol sweetness. Mellowly balanced. It’s a while since I last had an imperial stout this tobaccoish.

On tap at Craft, Clerkenwell Saturday 7th February 2015 Pours black with a filmy beige head. This drinks far easier than it should considering the hefty abv. A dark fruity tang with some sticky dates and fig perhaps, tricky rating this whilst stood up, suffice to say the beer is good stuff. Pours jet black with a 3-finger light-brown head. Aroma is malty with some roast and light ash in there. Taste is smoky at first which followed by some sugary sweetness and slightly dark chocolate bitter. Medium to full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Rich but controlled burnt chocolate aroma with a sweetness present but equalled by the roasty notes. A zing from the fruit is perhaps so subtly noticeable in the aroma but this could be imagined. Head is very dark, orange chocolate cappuccino, thin but returning well when shook.
Woah. The flavour journey is a complex one. It’s very thick and chocolatey at first with dark malty roast to Marmite tones. It has a tart element behind all the thickness and sweetness giving way to a strange flavour at the back which reminds me of toe nails or dead skin. Not that it tastes just like these things, probably.. but that’s my thought. There’s a bit of smoke in there too.
