Pours jet black with a 3-finger light-brown head. Aroma is malty with some roast and light ash in there. Taste is smoky at first which followed by some sugary sweetness and slightly dark chocolate bitter. Medium to full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Rich but controlled burnt chocolate aroma with a sweetness present but equalled by the roasty notes. A zing from the fruit is perhaps so subtly noticeable in the aroma but this could be imagined. Head is very dark, orange chocolate cappuccino, thin but returning well when shook.
Woah. The flavour journey is a complex one. It’s very thick and chocolatey at first with dark malty roast to Marmite tones. It has a tart element behind all the thickness and sweetness giving way to a strange flavour at the back which reminds me of toe nails or dead skin. Not that it tastes just like these things, probably.. but that’s my thought. There’s a bit of smoke in there too. kappldav123 (6133) - GERMANY - SEP 3, 2014
