Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - many thanks to Josh. Pours dark brown with a frothy brown head. Good dark malt nose, some dirt, roasted coffee, burnt cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, plenty of bittersweet chocolate, coffee grounds, bitter earth, toast. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, plenty of bitter earth, coffee, baking cocoa, restrained booziness. Lingering baking cocoa. Great beer overall.
330 ml bottle gifted by Leighton, much thanks! Best before 8-23 -2015. So a tad past itself prime. That said still pretty drinkable. Nose is thick mocha, toffee, smoke, and tobacco leaves. Taste is mild oxidation in the base, tobacco leaves, maybe old deep roasted barley, coffee. Mouthfeel was probably much better fresher. It has a tobacco, cigar and licorice smell with faint coffee. whoa. taste is pretty much tobacco cigarettes, old hard candy, chocolate and old coffee. goes down smoothly with a lingering bitterness. Can from mchughs. Pours brown black with tan head. Excellent lacing on the glass, just sticks to glass. Aroma is cherry, cocoa, coffee, chocolate, blackberry, tobacco, leather, grass. Flavour is a cherry sweet cocoa, coffee with salty hints. The mouthfeel is a velvet cream finish. It goes down so easy. Fruity blackberry, cherry finish. Almost like a black Forrest geautau.
