DATE TASTED: October 12, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Warsteiner pokal... OCCASION: celebrating PSU’s unBILLeivable comeback against Michigan--and my son’s fifth birthday... APPEARANCE: "dark" velvet black as night body with a brownish roadside snake-colored head; lacing is nonexistent, with a random streak or spot... AROMA: classic Beck’s ping/tang hops with a doughy funky roundness; a "dirtier" version of the pilsner...PALATE: slick and oily; lightly bodied with subtle activity at the teeth...TASTE: bready, doughy and slightly malty; light hops do not really add balance or memorability...OVERALL: on the plus side, sessionable and autumnal; on the negative, almost indistinguishable from the Oktoberfest, save the presence of extra doughy malts...
Bottle - no label taken - pours dark brown - nose/taste of light metallic malt - lighter medium body BeerRenter76 (1004) - Texas, USA - JUL 15, 2016
Originally rated on 9/11/08. "Skunky sweet aroma, deep ruby brown body with a very thin head, no laceing present. Flavor of malt and strong metallic notes, i think i got a bad batch, I probably wont drink the other one i got, i am not sure if i will finish whats in my glass. willisread (3293) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUN 10, 2016
Backlog. Pretty straightforward and mild dunkel. Easy drinking without any fuss and with a clean finish. Don’t mind this and honestly prefer it to the regular Becks. solidfunk (8838) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - APR 1, 2016
Not a ton going on here but it’s drinkable at least, and a little better than regular becks. Dark brown pour with ok head. Light tangy finish. Not offensive, just boring. Bottle at press club. Onslow (1476) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - JAN 4, 2016
Pour from a 12oz bottle. Looks nice in the glass - clear ruddy dark color with one finger of dense tan head that settles to a persistent thin head. aroma has hints of roasted malts with a mineral / metallic overtone. Taste is sweet roasted malts up front and through the middle of the swallow but settles into a muddy sweet maltiness with metallic overtones at the end. No so good.

Bottle. Mahogany color with an off-white head. The aroma is slightly skunky. Flavor is roasted malt with a sweet but metalic taste on the finish. phaleslu (10098) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 18, 2015
12 oz. bottle at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse. Green bottle poured into a pint glass. It pours a somewhat cloudy brownish amber with a small off-white head. Notes of grass, leaves, tobacco, chocolate, caramel, sugars, and earth. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and an earthy, malty, damp mouthfeel. Not much to it. Inoffensive, and it works when you’re low on options. hauxe (708) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - NOV 7, 2015
Starts nice, but the sweet rich taste dulls and flattens as the bottle progresses. Hints of roasted malts. Mediocre. ordybill (1731) - Douglasville, Georgia, USA - SEP 27, 2015
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the Pub in Gettysburg, PA. This is a complete disappointment. The beer is a dark brown with a tan head and has a metallic odor to it. The flavor is dull and flat with a metallic flavor mixed with some malt, completely forgettable. chinchill (4909) - South Carolina, USA - AUG 23, 2015
Beck’s Dark from a bottle.
Dark mahogany with very good clarity. Decent head.
Mild aroma with a flavor that is a bit better but also mild.
O: Decent except too mild.
