The pour reveals a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a thin beige head. Solid aroma of chocolate, caramel, fruits and malt than seems between toasted and roasted. Very good flavor of chocolate, caramel, fruits and malt along some lingering sweetness. The body is medium with a vinous texture and gentle carbonation. Great stuff! (Rating #2207) Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 7, 2009

How: Tap at brewpub. Grands Crus 2009 event.
The look: Almost clear dark amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose candied fruits with some spicy notes. Body is as full as it can but the smooth carbonation . Loaded with malts, flavour of dark fruits, hard-candies, some wood, some almonds, candied fruits, dried fruits and a little caramel to hold it all together. Moderately sweet, about what you’d expect for the style and gravity. The beer is also rather spicy (but not spiced) and that added a crispness to the beer and helped to distract from the sweetness. The overall sensation was that of a spicy fruit-flavoured hard-candy. Too much spicy and candy focussed for an ABT imho but as a spicy Belgian Strong this was very good. That thing spent 3 years and 3 months before being mature enough to be served to the public!!! Incredible. But not so bad considering how long my girlfriend will have to wait before I’m mature enough to behave in public.
Aroma:good dark fruity and alcohol aroma,sugar...
Appearance:Dark brown,good head..
Flavor:dark fruit flavor good sugar but need more palate... MartinT (9852) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 2, 2009
My Bottom Line:
This portentous Quadrupel lathers the tongue with nutty caramel waves, fruity mists and candied angles, as delicate roastiness and an alcohol splash cut through to add diversity and alleviate some of the sweetness. This is a mighty sipper that warrants respect.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam skirts the hazy burgundy-laced dark brown.
-The mouthfeel is very round and rich, more than usual even for the style. You can easily understand why Bedondaine waited three years before serving it.
-Maderization is almost absent, which is somewhat surprising considering the age of the brew.
-Carbonation is smooth and a tad less active than the usual Belgian-style Strong Ale.
On tap at the brewpub; 3-year-old sample.
