2012-09-14. Very hazy dark brown body, small beige head. 3+ Quite sweet, it has almost a dunkelweizen like caramel quality to it, odd undertones, sort of a dry malt character, muted fruit. 6+ Interesting fruity malty aroma, nice caramel malt, muted yeast. 6+ Medium plus palate, carbonation is too low. Has some very nice interesting highlights, but comes together a bit strangely. Grows on me, but I still don’t finish the glass. Odd. On tap at Beer Academy, Toronto

[4779-20120914] Tap. Strong solvent paint can aroma. Hazy, red brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Paint and solvent malt flavour has a lingering toasted aftertaste. Medium body. Not a fan. (3/3/4/2/7) 1.9

Bottle from brewery. Pours dark, with little-to-no head. Somehow looks a bit "thin". Aroma of figs and other dried fruits, and musty spices. The taste is a little roasty/smoky, with caramel, some dark fruits, and a dry finish. Doesn’t taste very Belgian.

solidfunk (9439) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - SEP 20, 2012
Alright. Smells a little funky, pours cloudy brown and has some sort of beer on lees yeast taste reminiscent of unibroue beers without being that good. Finish has some oaky bitterness. Medium palate.

June 20, 2012 - at The Beer Academy launch event. Draught sample. Hazy/murky brownish-amber, a lovely thick plug of tightly creamy/rocky taupe lasting head. Nice aroma - sweet thick caramel malt, lots of lush yeast, banana and a little chalkiness (7+). Taste follows - even more mineral bitterness to balance out what is fundamentally a sweet beer. Thick, weakly carbonated, surprising sweaty fresh herbal bitterness in the finish, quite good.

The beer pours a hazed brown colour with a thin tan ring for a head. The aroma was yeast, sugar, dark fruits, and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is very similar to Koningshoven Dubbel, which is a good thing...dark fruits, sweet, with some yeastiness.

Bottle 625 ml

Aroma: characteristic Belgian yeast notes , chocolate , some plum. Darker toasty character behind. Slight dryness of alcohol. Good.

Apperance: slight haze on light amber , touch of red. Medium slightly tanned top.

Taste: woody , toasty , with slight spice. Sweeter walls, medium bit dull bit one sided with overly toasty notes. One of least like brews from BA.

blankboy (7833) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 31, 2012
Draught at the brewery, June 20. Pours a murky copper-brown with an average size diminishing creamy tan head. Aroma’s slightly sugary sweet along with some banana and malt. Flavour’s also sweet and malty along with some banana and spice. Average bodied. Super sweet, too much so.

Note: Rated on opening week and some of these beers may be tweaked in the following weeks, if that’s the case I will re-rate in the future.
