Bottle. Very impressed with this. Roasted malts, chocolate in both aroma and flavor. Medium to fuller mouthfeel. Really like this HogTownHarry (6823) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - SEP 15, 2012
September 14, 2012 - at The Beer Academy - draught sample. Very dark - ruby/black, clear with pretty much no creamy/frothy head. Quite roasty - dry, nutshell, oily malt, fairly bitter (generic/herbal) - frankly it’s a bit harsh, like a light black IPA (7-). Taste - nowhere near as roasty or bitter as the aroma; weirdly sweet, something reminding me of burnt grape juice (6-). Slick, watery, flat, burnt with a building harshness in the finish - I really didn’t like it. Spab (3834) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 17, 2012
625 ml bottle from the brewpub (Recipe 1, Batch 2). Pours an opaque very dark brown with decent-sized, lasting light brown head. Aroma is dry and a bit roasty/smoky, a bit sweet with dark chocolate and fruit. Flavour is also balanced between roast verging on smoke and sweetness with notes chocolate and darkish fruit (maybe plum/grape). Mouthfeel is somewhat creamy. Solid. cfrancis (3444) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 24, 2012
Thanks to jercraigs for this. Pours black with a nice frothy brown top. Aroma is deep roasted malts and small vanilla. Taste is dry roasted malts, small chocolate and vanilla. Nice schwartz! asheft (3082) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 25, 2014
[on tap at brewpub]
Smooth, faintly roasted barley vanilla aroma with faint noble hops. Clear dark brown under a lasting, off-white sheet surrounded by large bubbles. Fairly sweet flavor with roasted barley vanilla, coffee, and brown sugar accents. Bitterness is insufficient to balance the sweet malt. Medium body, moderate to medium carbonation, clean finish.

625ml bottle from the Beer Academy retail store. pours deep brown with a small tan head that reduces quickly. toasty and dark malt aroma. the flavour is full and malt forward, complex and balanced. stunningly great Schwarz! best Ive had from this brewery. Brown-black with off-brown/tan head. Tight aromas that reflect fuller flavors - tastes a bit acrid and roasty, manure and pumpernickel, simply don’t like this one for the off-putting barn aroma. Bendrixian (1514) - Canadiana, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 6, 2014
625 ml bottle. pours a black with a creamy head that disappears quickly. Fairly quiet aroma but there is some light toast and caramel, although I do get a weird vegemite or something funky in there as well. On the palate it proves roasty with a little sweetness of caramel but is fairly indescript as a brew. I can see people liking this one.
