2012-09-14. Very dark brown-black body with a small tan head. 3+ Sweetish dark malt, muted dry roast. 6+ Mild aroma, dusty roast. 6+ Smooth average plus body. Decent, but simple and a touch too mild overall. On tap at Beer Academy, Toronto
625ml bottle from the Beer Academy retail store. pours deep brown with a small tan head that reduces quickly. toasty and dark malt aroma. the flavour is full and malt forward, complex and balanced. stunningly great Schwarz! best Ive had from this brewery. jksipa (1034) - Newmarket, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 29, 2014
Bottle from the brewery. Deep mahogany pour with a smell dark khaki head that quickly fades. Huge cocoa and espresso nose with hints of vanilla and roasted nuts. Lightly sweet toffee start and a medium light bitter coffee and chocolate middle extending to a quite dry finish. Flavour is much more subdued than the nose. Medium slick mouth with active carbonation. Ferris (17070) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 26, 2014
Draft - Roast malts and some coffee bean. Jet black with a beige head. Burnt toast and a light bitterness. Lighter than the smell lets on. Atheist_Peace (1042) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - JUN 29, 2014
Near black pour with a tan head that sticks around. I’m not sure what to make of the nose on this. There’s a lot of coffee and chocolate up front but underneath there’s this green sort of feeling and something I want to call sulphuric bacon. After tasting this I’m pretty sure this is a flawed bottle. The chocolate and coffee notes are there, but they’re underneath this sour candied something. It’s just plain weird. 625 ml bottle. pours a black with a creamy head that disappears quickly. Fairly quiet aroma but there is some light toast and caramel, although I do get a weird vegemite or something funky in there as well. On the palate it proves roasty with a little sweetness of caramel but is fairly indescript as a brew. I can see people liking this one.

Slightly sweet aroma, not too powerful. Very nice black, almost opaque, dark cream head. Roasted flavour, coffee like, pleasantly dry without being bitter. Fairly light, not overly carbonated. Quite good. asheft (3125) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 25, 2014

Smooth, faintly roasted barley vanilla aroma with faint noble hops. Clear dark brown under a lasting, off-white sheet surrounded by large bubbles. Fairly sweet flavor with roasted barley vanilla, coffee, and brown sugar accents. Bitterness is insufficient to balance the sweet malt. Medium body, moderate to medium carbonation, clean finish. This style is based on Germany’s Schwarzbier. It’s colour befits its name and it pours with a small head. It’s five-per-cent alcohol and rates a 23 IBU on the bitterness scale. Espresso and bitter chocolate are the predominant flavours in this medium-hopped brew that some people may be able to drink more of in one sitting than a heavier porter or stout. sudomorph (1200) - Barrie, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 2, 2013
625ml bottle. Pours black with a three finger, tan head that thins to a half finger and leaves mild lacing.
Aroma is large with notes of chocolate and roasted malts.
Taste is slightly bitter/sweet with big chocolate notes and a short roasty aftertaste.
Medium body with a low-medium carbonation. Slightly creamy, bubbly mouth feel.
This is a very easy drink. Great taste and aroma. Reminds me of a good porter or chocolate stout but not as thick. Ontbeertaster (3208) - Ontario, CANADA - AUG 18, 2013
Tap, pours dark black, aroma is roasty, flavour is roasty and a bit of chocolate and coffee, really nice smooth offering
