3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012-11-09. Hazy dark amber-brown, small beige head. 3+ Aroma is sweetish, lightly yeasty, caramel touches to the malt. 6+ Flavour is similar, sweet malt, caramel notes, sweet overall impression. 6+ Average plus to medium bodied palate. Okay, it is fairly quaffable but not particularly complex or exciting. Like many of their house beers it feels under attenuated, and is fairly sweet as a result. On tap at The Beer Academy, Toronto
[on tap at brewpub]
Slightly nutty, peanut aroma with some earthy hops and faint paper. Clear, dark bronze under a patchy, almost white sheet and lace. Sweet, mouth filling flavour/feel that quickly develops into an odd combination of bitter, earthy hops and an oatmeal(?) astringency that quickly fades out. Medium body, medium carbonation, slightly bitter finish. Sammy (12760) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 29, 2014
A decent brown ale, with a tad of bitterness and not too sweet. On tap at the brewpub. mabel (9787) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 31, 2012
[4931-20121109] Tap. Mild chocolate toasted malt aroma. Slightly hazy, light red brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Light fruity toasted malt flavour has an underlying wet wood note. Medium body. Average, not bad. (6/3/7/3/14) 3.3

Tap at Beer Academy:
Aroma: mellow oat mild feel, mellow side ends. Slight fruity hints. Good. 7+ JoeMcPhee (9549) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 15, 2012
Apperance: murky amber with hints of brown. Creamy top with rings on glass.
Taste/Palate etc. medium bodied. Very clean with low mid carbonation. Soft oat palate made this seriously drinkable. Slight nutty elements as it warms up. This is nice!
Pale brown/dark amber pour. The aroma is lightly sweet with a fairly oaty aroma. A fairly pronounced wheaty flavour that I wasn't expecting but that is quite lovely. Soft hint of brown sugar flavour but still seems dry. Spicy/earthy hop aroma and an assertive bitterness that really works. A pretty damn tasty brew. Fairly unique.

Draught at Beer Academy. Pours amber-brown with a large lasting frothy beige head. Good lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet and fruity along with nuts, caramel malt, oatmeal and chocolate. Flavour of caramel malt, yeast, sweet fruit, nuts and some hops in the finish. Average to medium bodied. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. An interesting idea, an Oatmeal Brown, I didn’t love it, it’s a touch sweet for me, but I quite liked it.

The beer academy is certainly improving on quality. They seem to do average styles extremely well, and thats something. This smells smoky with a big dose of oats. More pronounced than I usually encounter in many oatmeal stouts. Pours cloudy orange-brown with a little cream on top and a little lacing. Palate also has a very creamy feel. Aftertase has some bitterness and nut. Theres also an initial smell of malt. On tap at brewpub. Spab (4081) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 24, 2012
4 oz sample on tap at the brewpub. Pours a murky orangey brown with modest-sized, sticky cream-coloured head. Aroma is caramel, wheat, a hint of chocolate and mellow earthy hoppiness. Flavour is lightly sweet and lightly toasty with chewy caramel, wheat and a bit of earthy hoppiness. Modest bitterness in finish. Thicker mouthfeel. Pleasant.
