COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: In the Trappist monasteries an extra strong and good ale was brewed during the lent to keep the hunger at bar. The sweet drops on an empty stomach, combined with the much idle time occasionally led to less steadfast members of the order giving in to more earthly excesses. They went under the name "Malus Pater" - the bad father. With this ale inspired by the trappists you can now even do the same. And remember: God sees everything, but he doesn’t tell!

olio (10408) - Tampere, FINLAND - APR 30, 2015
50 cl bottle @ hotel room, Copenhagen.
Pours dark mahogany red color with a small head. Malts and "danish berries" on the nose, some caramel and faint hops. Sweet caramel flavor with malts and ripe fruits and toffee, some sugary and molassy notes too. Not very pleasant. Meh.

Unclear brown with white head. Red candy, Belgian spice, red berries and caramel. Fruity, floral, sweet caramel and some warming alcohol. Overall: enjoyable. Tastes like candy with caramel wort.

0.5L bottle brought home from ØlKonsortiet, Aalborg. A finger of latte head, quickly shrinking to a ring of tiny bubbles. Body is the darkest brown with a reddish hue. Initial aroma of alcohol-soaked roasted nuts. Feels quite unrefined and solventy on the nose, actually. Hints of brown sugar and peppery dark malts. Taste is sweet malty, bordering on harsh. Moderately roasted with a sourish tone. Notes of wood and licorice. Alcohol is noticable. Mid-bodied. Sharp, light astringent mouthfeel. Sourish and peppery malt finish. Goes well down, but a bit edgy and unrefined. Will probably improve with cellaring.

Bottle (50 cl) from Bierkompass.de. I love the label of this beer. Otherwise, it was not that exciting. Weak belgian character, some malitiness with a roasted touch. Dry with boring salty bitterness.

Embrouille (2854) - SWITZERLAND - FEB 24, 2011
Bottled 50cl. Buttery aroma which is reminiscent of dried fruit, plums, banana and candy sugar. Full bodied. Buttery taste too. I was quite dissapointed by this Abt.

JorisPPattyn (10061) - BELGIUM - MAR 8, 2011
Small, receding, slighly irregular beige head over deep-brown to black beer. Very perfumey nose with marzipan, bubblegum, rosewater, suggesting perfumey sweet. Fruity esters and dark malts. Very sharp-bitter liquorice and drop - even salt one. Some fruity background notes, fruitdrops, but all drowned in the bitter liquorice flavour. Bitter chocolate retronasal. Well bodied, slick to viscous, alcoholwarming. Just a taste I abhorr, sorry.

ALLOVATE (3048) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JAN 25, 2014
Muddy, murky brown. Headless, oily legs. Heavy set savoury fruit nose. Yeasty, bready, burnt toast and vinous, thick, liqueurish stone fruit with just a hint of spice. Soapy, light body. Remarkably light. Sticky, bitter/sweet raisin and sultana finish. Pleasant but bland.

HonusWagner (2209) - Florida, USA - MAR 8, 2011
Thanks Hopscotch for the share, lovely label. Nose is faint traces of what should make up a good (to me) quad, raisins and brown sugar and figs, but also alcohol presence. But you have to dig for the good, and the alcohol is a bit much. The taste is a bit muddled on the palate, some ambiguous sweet flavors, and a kind of oddly dry/bitter finish. Meh.

rand (1710) - SWITZERLAND - FEB 18, 2012
Bottle 59 cl from erzbierschof.ch. Brown very dark, brownish and rough foam bad looking. Nose of caramel, molasses, alcohol. Very sweetened taste, round and syrupy, chocolate, dry fruits, madeira, liquor-like and doped with candy. Too much residual sugars, limit of the sickness. Beer without class, just like the label. Grave et sine praestantia cervesia.

kschep (1707) - DENMARK - SEP 27, 2010
Nose of gingerbread, sugar, weak alcohol, and raspberry, mediumweak feel, short taste of burnt malt, alcohol, and sugar cane
