3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
350ml draught, house beer of the month at Henrik Øl & Vinstove. Bright surface, mahogany coloured body, dotted spots to the glass. Caramel malts and dried fruity smell with mild spices. Semi-sweet, dark chocolate-fruity taste added by a faint peppery note. Bittersweet long tail. Enjoying (Bergen, 16.09.2012).
On tap at Henrik. Dark mahogany with an off-white head. Hoppy aroma with malt, caramel, biscuits and some fruity notes and hints of spices and pine. Medium+ body with slightly lively carbonation. Quite sweet with caramel, fruits and hops in the flavour, not much dark flavours but some roasty notes and hints of chocolate. Finishes quite bitter. Bitter and sweet aftertaste with hops and caramel. Decent brew, tasty and flavourful, but quite what I expect from a BIPA. (2013-04-25) OleR (4849) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 30, 2012
From keg @Henrik, Bergen. Dark brown with mahogny edges. Low beige head. Caramel and citrus fruits to the nose. A whiff of mocha and licorice. Medium to full body. Smooth almost creamy in the mouth. Light sweet, well roasted malt flavor. Burnt caramel and notes of soot and tar. Solid fruity and piny bitterness underneath. Finishes dry and roasty with a hop bitter bite.
Good, indeed. [08.09.12] tmrmwel (2269) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 4, 2012
On tap @ Henrik, Bergen. Pours a transparent dark, with a finger thick lightly coloured head. Nicely balanced hoppy aroma with notes of pine. Full body with soft carbonation. Flavour is bitter with grapefruit, as well as some burned malty notes of liquorice. Hoppy finish. A good brew, but missing a bit of the Black in BIPA. ej (1330) - Hauglandshella, NORWAY - NOV 14, 2012
Deep brown, almost opaque. Nice nutty aroma, heavy caramel and malty sweet. Subdued roast. Nicely balanced bitterness vs the solid malty backbone. Fruits include plums and some melon, grapefruit and pine. Medium to full body and medium carb. gunnar (9692) - Sandnes, NORWAY - OCT 28, 2012
On tap at Henrik, Bergen. Pours dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is malty, some dark fruits as well. Taste is moderate sweet, some liquorice and tarish burnt malts, light sticky mouthfeel, moreish, pleasant, unagressive beer.

On tap at Henrik, Bergen. Has a slightly unclear deep reddish brown colour with a small off-white head. Aromas of leather, berries, caramel, sweet malt, dried fruit and hops. It’s more like an IPA in the flavour with more hops, grass, grains and resin. Soft and slick mouthfeel, and a medium bitterness. Black IPA? It reminds me more of a little bit richer IPA, but a good and well-balanced one. Beer5000 (6731) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - SEP 25, 2012
On tap @ @ Henrik, Bergen. A dark amber body with a moderate sized beige head. Fine malt aroma with caramel and dry fruit with a hint of citric fruit. Flavor is rich malty and rather quaffable at the same time, sweet, bitter and fruity with a pleasant but not very dominant bitterness. Fine body and a pleasant aftertaste. This is a fine and tasty black IPA with focus on the malt rather than the hops. yngwie (17234) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - SEP 7, 2012
On tap at Henriks. A dark brown beer, lightly unclear, and topped by a small, dense, beige head. Toffee, roasted malts, some dried fruits and citrus in the aroma. Pleasant indeed, although a bit on the toffee side. Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, toffee, dried fruits and a really pleasant hoppy flavour of point cones, citrus peel and bitterness. Full body, pleasant carbonation, and quite dry. Rather sweet and toffee-ish for a black Ipa, but pleasant anyway. 120907 Palme (4823) - Bergen, NORWAY - SEP 3, 2012
On tap @ Henrik. This is a clear deep amber-brown one. It has a small really dense and creamy off-white head that’s really lacing down the glass. Fruity candy on the nose at first. I get some dried raisin-like sweet berries with red plums and a good strong malt sweetness. Not bad at all. It has a nice average carbonation level with a good oily mouthfeel. The taste was at first quite malty and sweet. Lot’s of fruity hops with nuts and red sticky berries. Also some near woody-chocolate-cinnamon spicy thing also going on here. Interesting indeed. Then all of a sudden in the finish and aftertaste it goes a bit yeasty and almost hazelnuts-gone-bad-like. Reminds me much of Ægirs Skumring when I first tasted it. A cross between a Belgian ale/dubel and a IBA? A bit to raw and fresh still perhaps, but it definitely grows on you. I like it, and will definitely give it a go at the next occasion. 31.08.2012
