dark amber, caramel aroma dominating, fruity hints. long bitter finish. first taste molasses and smooth mouthfeel
From a 500ml bottle on 19/9/2016. Pours a cloudy brown with a small head. The nose features caramel, toffee and a bit of dark fruit. In the mouth, it’s a sweet and malty sipper - dates, prunes and Christmas cake up front with more caramel and toffee malt in the background. It features some mild vinous notes and has a sharp and reasonably pronounced bitterness, with a bit of resin in the mix. The texture is slightly syrupy and the carbonation is moderate. It comes across as pretty big, though perhaps not quite 11%. I paid under eight bucks for this, which represents excellent value. Quite complex and very enjoyable. Will definitely return for another. Amber coloured and clear Has a white head, medium duration. Heavy sweet, sugars, malts, toffee, caramel. Warming alcohol. Davros (3246) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JAN 9, 2015
Pours dark copper with a fading head.
Nose shows rich malt with fig and sultana notes. Some golden syrup too.
Rich malt flavours with brown sugar, soft booze and sultanas. Not overly sweet though, stopping short of being cloying. sinkas (293) - Perth/Fremantle, AUSTRALIA - DEC 16, 2014
Great aroma and colour but thin and very bitter dont think its likely to age well ALLOVATE (3049) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 30, 2014
At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Looks good on first pour. A deep, fiery chestnut, just shy of bright, with a shiny, tight pad atop that does its best to hold. Big and boozy, sherry and brandy drenched nose brimming with light and dark stonefruit, hot, buttered toast, sticky marmalade, golden syrup and treacle. Unexpectedly light in body. The bottle I have now just a year old but it shows in the attenuation. Chewy yet lean with rich malts battered by a dry, boozy finish. Plenty of sherry with a burnt wine harboured in the aftertaste. Sweet, toffeeish, caramelised fruit front, a hint of butter, a hint of toasted bread and Anzac biscuits. Comes together well. Lasting bitter, burnt wine notes make it though. Not too shabby! 50cl bottle pours with a slightly murky deep red amber-ish body that supports a thin light tan head. The aroma is malty, prune-y, a bit of spicy black strap molasses, brown sugar and a bit of smooth aged ripe cherry meat. The taste begins with brown sugar, prunes and slightly spicy molasses covered dates. To midway it gets a bit more fruity with modest ripe cherry notes as well as a bit of sweet nuttiness joining in and helping take this to the finish. Pretty nice sipper where the big ABV seemed very well hidden. davidm (2081) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - DEC 19, 2013
