Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with dull orange glints. Tan head. Aroma is light pie spice. Flavor is earthy dark malt with moderate pie spice and chocolate. A dark brown porter with a thin brown head. In aroma, a chalky chocolate with muskey coffee notes, light off notes. In mouth, a smooth lightly sweet chocolate, light pumpkin pulp, a bit musty, medium bodied. On tap at Oregon Brewer’s Fest, July 31 2011.

Black color with tan foam. Chocolate malt, nutty roasted pumpkin seed, pale malt aromas. smooth medium body with light co2. Nutty, dark roast malt, chocolate, earthy pumpkin seed flavors- pretty good. @Elysian Great Pumpkin Beer Fest 2010.

Bottle:   Deep brown, slightly muddy, thin to moderate pale mocha colored head, so-so lacing.   Soft spicy nose, a little roasty.   On the tongue its even softer, pale roast, little bitterness, some chocolate notes.   Comes across on the lighter side of a Porter, let alone Imperial Porter.   Thin to moderate body and mouthfeel.   Ashy finish, light roast, soft nutmeg and allspice.   Wished it were heavier, and spicier.   Very soft example as is, but at least fairly clean. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - SEP 29, 2013
Very cloudy brown pour with a khaki head. The aroma is very spicy with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and a hint of toast and cocoa. The flavor is the same. Dark pour, thin tan head. The aroma is of roasted malts, dark chocolates, and light pumpkin meaty notes. Flavor is very much the same with a light pumpkin finish and a pleasant dark malt base. Growler thanks to Chad at work: Pours a dark black color with a nice big tan head. The nose is very roasty, tons of black barley and chocolate notes. Not much coffee but some licorice, light soy and some molasses mixed in. The flavor is balanced with big roasty qualities, malt sweetness and some light piney hops. Dark black in color, clear with a thin tan head. Big chocolate roasty malt aroma. Lots of Dark porter/coffee/chocolate flavor very little with the pumpkin. Missed the boat on the extra flavor in my book.
