Comes out of the cask a dark, coppery honey that is hazy to the point of barely translucent. Aroma is strongly hoppy like a good IPA, with hints of malt and fruit. Flavor is hoppy and fruity, with notes of hay and greenwood but scarce bitterness. Texture is fizzy, if rather thin. On draft at the brewpub, Salem location. Malty, toasty, lightly metallic aroma, with faint breadiness and herbal hop, very light sweetness here, maybe even some toffee. Clear copper-brown in color, head is fine and slight. Flavor is clean, malty, lightly bready, gently bitter and sweet, more toasty bread flavors, a very gentle hop character appearing at the finish, leafy and herbal. Some light fruitiness showing very late. Smooth and very easy going on the palate, body is light-medium. A: The pour is amber in color with a finger of off-white head.
S: Smells of sweet malt with toasted malt and toffee. There is a bit of grape flavor and sweetness. A light flavor of yeast as well as a very slight nuttiness. Maybe a little bit of floral hop aroma.
T: A nice toasted malt and toffee flavor. There’s some nutty flavors as well as some mild fruit flavors. It’s sort of bitter for an altbier. As with the aroma, there are some grape flavors.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

On tap at Fenway location, 7 October 2009. Nice dark chestnut colour. Diminishing off white head. Caramel/toffee aroma. More of the same in the flavour. Just a twist of hop bite. Some residual sweetness. A little too much for me.

Draft at the Fenway Brewpub - Poured a dark reddish amber in color with a medium foamy head. Some lacing on the glass. Aroma is malty with a nice roastiness and some spiciness. Had this one on draught at the brewpub on Canal Street, Boston, Massachusetts. Dark red pour with a lacy, white head; toasted almond and chocolate malts in the nose, slightly spicey especially into the body, which has a little allspice, grape and apple fruitiness, with some sweet milk chocolate. Tap at Canal Street Location: Rusty copper pour with a thin spotty off-white head. The aroma is of roasted malt, with a light hint of cinnamon. Light fruity flavor upfront. The mid-palate gives off some sweet bready malt along with a mild spiciness from Euro-hops. The finish has a toasty hint. Decent.
