Absolutely fabulous. This beer comes with a head that's as creamy as a Boddington's. Nitro? The body is slightly bitter with a lingering aftertaste that's so good, it almost makes you forget the overpriced food you're eating. Full-flavored with appropriate malt body for its style. Had this one on draught at the brewpub on Canal Street, Boston, Massachusetts. Dark red pour with a lacy, white head; toasted almond and chocolate malts in the nose, slightly spicey especially into the body, which has a little allspice, grape and apple fruitiness, with some sweet milk chocolate. Nice, smooth finish. Very nice. BREWMUSKCLES (2720) - New Jersey, USA - OCT 3, 2008
fully fragrant and tart this alt is tangy and moderately sweet with nice refreshing carbonation. clear and nicely contrasting in favors and body it finishes mild and clean. the almost floral/grassy caramel freshness and sweetness off the top of a keg was just fine. really good beer tasting day at the Salem beer works here at Salem Mass. Comes out of the cask a dark, coppery honey that is hazy to the point of barely translucent. Aroma is strongly hoppy like a good IPA, with hints of malt and fruit. Flavor is hoppy and fruity, with notes of hay and greenwood but scarce bitterness. Texture is fizzy, if rather thin. A good way to celebrate any centennial. notalush (5895) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - OCT 29, 2006
Tap at the Canal Street location - a very nice Alt - dark red with a slight brown tint, and a fabulous, foamy head - just a mild sweetness on it, with a very pleasant dry character, which is great, since so many alts tend to lean toward the sweet end of the spectrum these days - lingering toasty/roasty, crisp bitterness - I like.

Dark brown beer, with a nice off-white head. Gently malted aroma - somewhat sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. The flavor is very pleasant and easy to drink. Nice clean finish. JAF737300 (1291) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 22, 2007
This beer pours medium amber. It sgows notes of nuts and malt on the nose. The palate shows some deeper hints of toasted malt with a slight sweet finish. Indra (2711) - Suburbia, Kansas, USA - OCT 17, 2011
On draft at the brewpub, Salem location. Malty, toasty, lightly metallic aroma, with faint breadiness and herbal hop, very light sweetness here, maybe even some toffee. Clear copper-brown in color, head is fine and slight. Flavor is clean, malty, lightly bready, gently bitter and sweet, more toasty bread flavors, a very gentle hop character appearing at the finish, leafy and herbal. Some light fruitiness showing very late. Smooth and very easy going on the palate, body is light-medium. Actually a pretty nice Alt; I enjoyed it. [cask @ Fenway location] Pours a murky, dark brown color. Cask conditioning provides a short-lived, dense head. Malty aroma. Flavors bready malts, some subtle fruitiness and a nice hop finish. A pretty good beer, overall. JoeMcPhee (9454) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 26, 2006
Deep brown-amber beer with a thick white head. Aroma is quite interesting, minerally with a herbal hop character. A bit of light smokiness as well. Faint cherry and toast and also an earthy resinousness in the nose. Flavour is a bit more straightforward. Cherry fruit, bracing minerally dryness and a faint hint of smoke again. Flavour is well-balanced by noble/herbal hop character. Moderate bitterness with light toast and sweet berryish esters throughout.
