In Mikkeller we have over the years done many collaboration brews. However, the last one we did was a little unusual – we collaborated with the Swedish tattoo studio Crooked Moon. The two brothers Jacob and Jonas Pedersen that run Crooked Moon Tattoo in Helsingborg wanted to celebrate their tattoo studio’s first birthday with a big party, and what could be more natural than to do it with a beer in their own name? The two brothers have designed the labels for this beer. And therefore this beer comes with two different labels. One by of Jacob, and the other by Jonas. The beer is just like a Crooked Moon tattoo: strong and powerful. In this case we are talking about a violently hoppy double IPA with 9% alcohol. You’ll find Crooked Moon / Mikkeller DIPA find on draft and bottled. The picture show the two labels – Jacob’s label design to the left and of course then, Jonas’ to the right.En dobbelt india pale ale.
Ingredienser: vand, malt, (pilsner, pale), humle (amarillo, citra, nelson sauvin, simcoe, sorachi ace), og alegær.

33 cl. bottle @ Home. Aroma: not very intense but very pleasant aromas of tropical fruits, fruits, grapefruit, maybe mango or passion fruit, citrus. No hints of alcohol in the nose. Appearance: quite deep golden to light amber color with medium hazyness. Perfectly white head with very high thickness, very high retention, medium Brussels’ lacing and creamy texture, made of big sized bubbles. Taste: low to medium sweetness, medium bitterness, low sourness. Flavors of grapefruit, tropical fruits, resin, pine. Some toasted/caramel malt overtones in the background. Balance is on the hop bitterness side with some malt sweetness as counterpart. Bitterness is quite high but not harsh nor unpleasant. Alcohol level is very well hidden, it’s not noticeable in the flavor nor in its warming effect. Palate: medium body, oily-silky texture, low to medium carbonation, long dry bitter finish (medium bitterness) of grapefruit, tropical fruits, pine, resin. Overall: excellent appearance. Not very intense aromas but quite good aromas and flavors of tropical fruits, grapefruit, fruits, resin, pine. Quite bitter but no harshness nor astringency nor too much bitterness. Quite refreshing and drinkable. Good. Not the best IPA (or DIIPA) i’ve tasted so far, but definitely a good one.

0.33 l bottle. Tasting session with Višnja 666 and Pilot Goran in the summer of 2017. Hazy golden, medium off-white head. Citrus aromas, malts with some acidity. Alcohol, light sour, fruity. Medium body, moderate carbonation, fruity finish. Strange.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2017 40cl from draft at Mikkeller Bar. Excessively boozy beer, with clear alcoholic aroma that covers the fruity and sour notes of the IPA. Slightly disappointing

Pours hazy orange with a puffy white head.
Aroma is not very strong but, rather delicate and hoppy where citrus is the main feature.
Taste is perfectly balanced: malty sweet and hoppy bitterness, just some subtle alcoholi notes in the finish. I sensed some dried figues too in the last sips.
Medium carbonation, medium body, totally drinkable.
Not the craziest Mikkeller, very nice.

Can. Appearance is murky/cloudy golden, a one-finger foamy white head. Aroma- grapefruit, orange, pithy fruit, mango, pineapple, sweet malt, hints of caramel. Very fruity. Taste- thick, orangey fruit juice, sweet pineapple, undercurrent of rough malt, grapefruit, sticky fruitcake, lots of fruity sweetness, then bitter hop resin. Juicy and sticky mouthfeel. Very nice.

Medium aroma of malts, caramel, wood, vanilla, fruit, hops and citrus.

Appearance: 4
Turbid/opaque golden/amber beer with a slight off-white head.

Taste/Palate: 8/4
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, wood, vanilla and fruit; ends slightly bitter and dry with hops and citrus.

Overall: 17
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. There is some wood and vanilla shining through and I really have no idea why. Maybe the guys did not clean their tap thoroughly enough? Great fruit flavours and a decent bitter finish thanks to the hops. Great appearance and palate as well, but the aroma could have been stronger.

330ml bottle at home. Pours a hazy orange amber with some head. Very intriguing and spicy aroma. Lots of tropical fruit, orange, lemon, booze, resin, hops. Nice balance of intense tropical and citrus fruit with herbal and spicy hoppiness. Taste is very bitter, medium sweet, caramel and with a pronounced malt base. Fruity, though not as pronounced as in aroma. Finishes herbal and earthy, resiny side of the hops shows off here. Finishes a tad sugary and boozy too. Nice double IPA, flavour could be a tad more fruity or juicy for my liking but could be due to it being a tad old.
