A vigorous pour yields a frothy, initially almost four-finger thick, light tan colored head that leaves some spotty lacing as it slowly recedes. The beer is a brilliantly clear, rich copper color that has a bright, copper color that almost has a metallic sheen to it when held up to the light. Soft citrus hop notes greet my nose and yield aromatics similar to grapefruit, orange zest, notes of creamsicles and light pine aromatics. There is a malt backbone here as well with aromas of soda crackers, toasty grain and biscuit like malt.
This starts out with a nice sharp hop bite and continues with a solid bitterness through to the finish. Grapefruit-like hop flavors and a touch of catty-hops show off the signature Cascade notes. Slightly herbaceous, with a definite pine-sap character, the hop character is just resinous enough to keep it interesting. Lightly caramelized malt and a drier biscuit / cracker note provide a malt backdrop to the hop character that is the real focus of this beer. This is quite quaffable, though it of course has a certain heft and body to it that helps to keep the hop notes in balance.
In the modern scene of hop overdosing, this beer can seem a bit tame, but it is so widely available & still delicious that it is always appreciated when I have this beer. This was my first craft brew experience back in the 90s and I remember how shocked I was at the flavor that greeted my unsuspecting taste-buds at the time; the hop character was just out of this world & an extreme jolt to my senses. I still remember that experience and I remember thinking how anyone could drink something like this. The funny thing is that it didn’t stop me from having more and I became aware of all of the varied flavors that craft beer had to offer. Definitely a classic that will always hold a place in my belly.

An amazing beer in its time but now superseded by many better ones. Still very refreshing though. Not too hoppy and quite malty and packs a bit of a pinch at 5.6%. Light mandarin orange background and pretty quaffable thejackpacker (853) - East Sussex, ENGLAND - APR 16, 2018
Bottle from system. A decent ale and a big history behind it. Nothing remarkable Beerwithwings (440) - Hampshire, ENGLAND - APR 14, 2018

UPDATED: APR 12, 2018 355ml bottle. Clear amber beer with sweet taste changing to a slight bitterness. No real hop aroma or taste, but solid malt. No carbonation, but a nice head

Pours a clear, deep gold/light amber coloration with a medium, fizzy head. Smells faintly of biscuity, bready malt, with a certain graininess coming through as well and the merest hint of citrus and pine. Taste is a good balance of biscuity malt and citrus hops, with just a hint of pine coming through and an underlaying grainy and slightly flowery note. Finishes with crisp, light/medium bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation. I wasn't gonna review this as first, as my bottle is a good six months old. However, reading the other reviews and knowing that SN are actually masters of brewing beers that keep well, I feel that the beer is actually supposed to have this slightly understated malt/hop presence, which is kind of typical of a classic, old school Pale Ale, I suppose. It's well balanced, crisp and easy-drinking, but lacks a certain bite and doesn't really seem that special. Maybe it really is better fresh, who knows.
<P> Botella acondicionada.

Piney nose, with some flowery notes. Orange and tangerine notes as it breathes. Medium body, moderate malty sweetness. Pleasant bitterness with a nice hop flavor. Bitter finish with no harshness. Well-balanced pale ale that's not overdone in alcohol or bitterness.
