The beer produced on these premises contains only rye malt, hops, water and yeast. We do not use any chemical products, such as antioxidants, preservatives, froth stabilizers or artificial colors. We make our beer using traditional methods because we believe that beer plays an important role in human nutrition, and so we make it in accordance with the oldest law of nutrition: the German “Reinheitsgebot” of 1516.

Pint at the beer house. Cloudy golden smooth white head. Sawdust malty dry aroma flavor is sweet malty sawdust floral faint note of sweet fruits. Quite tasty and much better than the macro served in funchal.

Derbeth (1058) - Kraków, POLAND - SEP 30, 2015
Draught. Golden colour, cloudy, decent head. Aroma is dough, wheat. Light bitterness, slightly sour which gives the beer more freshness. Thick texture, but it’s pleasant to drink. A good example of unfiltered lager. BTW I don’t think there is any rye in it - German text from the menu mentions only barley and it looks much more correct than the English translation there.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2014 16.11.2012, tap @ the Brewhouse / Restaurant:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head, very hazy. Aroma is slightly fruity, light malts, grain, hops, caramel, hay and grass. Taste is slightly dry, still a little sweet, light malts, hops, grain, hay, yeast, grass and caramel. Medium bitterness. Love this one, very quenching! In fact it takes me back to having an ultra-fresh, unfiltered and unpasteurized pilsner in Prague. I’m not really a big fan of lager beers, and especially not industry beers. I had absolutely NO expectations to this beer what so ever, so it totally blew my mind.

(This rating was based on our first visit. The second time the beer was extremely muddy, and almost flat. But the aroma and taste was almost as good. Based on my experience, and the other three ratings before me, it seems like they need better quality control. At it’s best, this beer is world class when it comes to style. But it’s still very good when it’s not at it’s best.)

Skakapa (52) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAY 29, 2012
Draught at the brewpub. No head. light amber. Lager-like nose with minimal fruit esters. Almost no carbonation and no body. Unmalted cereals? The hops are probably there but leave no bitterness. I can appreciate a good lager on a summer day and I’ve tried a few but this is as poorly done as possible without being infected. Maybe it would benefit from further fermentation and storage.

Ober (2811) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - JUN 14, 2010
A little hazy yellow colored beer, with a nice white head. The aroma of wheat with yeast with dough. A little sour. The taste is fresh of some fruits, wheat . A little bitter with some sour. The aftertaste some bitter with sourness.

thebeertourist (5188) - Oslo, NORWAY - JAN 4, 2009
On tap at the brew pub. Supposedly 3.5% ABV (but I suspect it is really more like around 4.5%) Hazy golden with a decent head. Grainy and spicy aroma. Good bitterness blending with grainy and spicy flavours. Medium body. Almost like a kellerbier, and definitely something special on the beer desert island of Madeira.
