Enjoyed: Poured from a bottle into tulip/snifter glass. Appearance: Black colour; Short-lived brownish head. Aroma: Coffee, chocolate. Palate: Light body, watery, gentle carbonation. Taste: Chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, light bitterness, coffee aftertaste. Overall impression: Very tasty and enjoyable. Maybe too much watery.

Canned. Black color with big creamy brown head. Chocolate and light roasted malt aroma. Sweet and dry taste. Light to medium body.

Aroma has raisin, chocolate and coffee and is slightly alcoholic. Appearance is nice, almost black, but the foam is less interesting than in, say, Guinness. There’s a decent amount of foam and carbonation though. Suitable for this style of beer. The palate is oily, but pleasant. The taste has again "dark things" such as raisin, coffee and burnt taste. The taste is very delicious. This is comparable to Guinness in many aspects, but I’d say it’s a less rich and lighter presentation of Guinness, because it has less richness and less sweetness making it lighter.

Poured from a 14.9 OZ can into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Pooler. The appearance is pitch black with a large thick off-white head. The aroma is malt and black licorice.

Dry Stouts are not usually my thing, but Belhaven’s does it right. Big smoky peaty aroma flavor wrap around earthy baker’s chocolate creating a taste that feels like an old dark Scottish pub. Has a chewy mouthfeel that belies its relatively low 4.2% ABV. Once again the old timers show the new comers how its done!

Deep brown. Creamy, smooth, medium bodied. Lightly toasted malt, chocolate, light fruit notes. Finish is lightly roasted malts with some chocolate. Not so bad.

HourGlass13 (881) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 14, 2017
Pours black, with a creamy head. Aroma is smoke and roasted malts. Taste is dark organic coffee, smoked malts, and a touch salty. Lightly bitter finish. The beer is just a hint warming despite the relatively low ABV. Good stuff.
