This did not taste that great, even though I was 4 beers deep already. It had little flavor, and was not very hoppy. Fairly flat beer. No thanks.

The Budweiser of Scottish Ales. Very thin nose. I could detect nothing but a slight hint of hops and alcohol. Sparkling, clear mohogany hue. Large, frothy, off-white head. Fully lasting with excellent lacing. The flavor is malty and earthy. Perfectly balanced. Nice and smooth. Watery mouthfeel. Thin body. Fizzy carbonation. Dry, crisp, slightly pungent finish. Scottish lawnmower beer. Not a bad beer, just not a very good scottish ale. Try this as an introduction to scottish ales, then move along quickly to another.

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2003 Decent ale, malt all the way through. The finish is what killed this though. Had this weird Pepto Bismol aftertaste, not sure how else to describe it. Maybe I'm just not used to peat. I favor the St Andrews and the Wee Heavy.

It was a tasty ale. I don’t know if it was worth the $11 (six pack). But it was a good beer. I’ll stick with others though.

Great taste and very malty. needs more alcohol content though.

Flat headed ale. Malty nose. Bitter start finishing bitter-sweet. Session beer.

I opened this bottle while writing a lecture on the American Congress.... Pours with a decent, puffy, but loosely formed and quickly diminishing beige head, over a typical dark amber/caramel body. Then I took one sip and was hit with peat. Perhaps this is a smell you can place only if you’ve watched peat being cut or smelled it burn from a Scottish cottage. I now know that others have had this reaction to this beer. Lovely, earthy flavors. A slightly oily palate, typically British body in the lack of sustained carbonation. Mildly sweet, building through the drink. Smokiness continues, with some nice malty notes and only the slightest bitterness in the end. Another flavorful and enjoyable ale in the Scottish ale category. It ’twould be among my "everyday" beers, if I had my druthers.

Clear as day, but deep amber like a cool ember. Complexly sweet aroma. Thin texture approaching zero. Malty and sweet, but is timid and could be a great beer if it were bolder.

Prostman (1077) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 15, 2002
This is a decent scottish ale. Very sweet initially but the finish is nice. This would be a good session beer due to the small ABV %.

Wakie (612) - Centreville, Virginia, USA - OCT 11, 2002
Standard red beer appearance. Little to no head. Aroma was unspectacular and revealed little more than the fact that this was beer. Very light and easy drinking. Went down extremely smoothly and had a strong taste of cold honey.
