Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

I’m a big fan of the style and this one hits all the right notes, though "magic" might be a stretch. Nose is odd, though not off putting, hint of mildewish aroma/mushroom, malty, slightly earthy (suspected source of mildew input), caramel, treacle. Hints of esters, phenols appropriate for style. Beautiful deep golden, crystal clear, low dense head, no lacing. Taste reflects aroma but without any hint of off flavor, more bready/grainy than nose, sweetness comes through, mildly grassy in a pleasant way. Palate is perfect! Viscosity is medium, very low cask-like carbonation, very dry finish for style, highly drinkable. Overall a joy to drink, the yeast and phenols scream scottish ale. Straightforward yet complex, the best of what session beers or daily drinkers are all about!

11.2 fl oz botttle, blue/white label, 5.2% abv. Clear dark golden in the glass, smallest head. Malt with some sweetness on the nose, low hop in the background. Taste starts malty, low sweetness in the second row, low but increasing bitterness. Fruity background, getting more toasted malt. Dry hop and grain in the background of the second part. Smooth and easy to drink. Okay.

Poured a crystal clear dark red copper with a tall foamy light beige head. There were a lot of carbonation bubbles rising up in the glass. The head reduced to just a film rather quickly taking away from the beer appearance. The color was great. The aroma was very mild. Hints of caramel malt, light nuttiness and some earthiness. The beer was very smooth from start to finish. The texture was slightly creamy. The flavor had a slight bit of sweetness and just a hint of nuttiness and a touch of hops. Nothing stood out with this one other than it was very smooth, had a mellow flavor and easy drinking

Translucent deep copper with foamy beige head. Medium-full body with moderately high carbonation.

Aroma: tart minerality, bread crust, crystal malt, musty or dirty sock note which could be from challenger hops.

Taste: sweet caramel malt, leafy hops, some fruity yeast esters, same sharp/odd butyric/sock character that showed in the aroma.

330ml bottle from Aldi. Thin white head disappears quickly, barely any lacing. Clear dark amber body. Rich malty nose, dark fruits, toffee. Flavour is caramel, earthy hops, spice on the finish. Light carbonation, decent mouthfeel, clean finish. Standard Scottish ale.

Szopeen (553) - POLAND - JUN 23, 2016
Barwa bursztynowa, idealnie klarowne, piana niezbyt obfita. Piwo przede wszystkim słodowe, karmelowe, z lekkim miodowym posmakiem, nawet pijalne.

ciocanelu (2523) - Timisoara, ROMANIA - MAY 25, 2016
Medium amber color with off-white head. Aroma is really malt forward with nice caramel and dark sugar. Taste follows malt forward, definitely on the sweet side with a dark sugar note but also slightly hoppy and bitter on the finish, just to balance everything out. Body is quite light with the right amount of carbonation. Overall it’s an easy drinking, malt forward beer.

Krigla (186) - SLOVENIA - MAY 20, 2016
Bottle, 0.33l. Clear copper colour with creamy, beige head. Average carbonation. Aroma of sweet malts, fruit and caramel. Taste follows the aroma. Pleasant bitter sweet aftertaste. Overall decent beer.

Echon (535) - Århus, DENMARK - MAY 18, 2016
Brown and medium-bodied. Fruity and malty aroma, with a light flavour of malt, spice and fruit. Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Overall, the best part of this beer is the aroma. The taste is simply too light and a bit anonymous.
