Belhaven Scottish Oat Stout is dark, rich and layered, with a wonderful silky texture and a lingering finish. We uses a complex mash including roasted barley and oats along with 3 types of malt to give the beer its trademark depth and complexity: Creating black coffee and dark chocolate notes that make this stout intense yet approachable.

Bottle. Black with a nice head. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, chocolate, sweet and a little bit smokey. Aftertaste is burned bacon which I just cant stand. Its alright I guess but not my cup of tea.

Frothmeister (783) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 20, 2017
330ml bottle. Pours the darkest possible brown turning to mahogany when held up to the light, and a one finger tan cap with some clumsy cheap lager-like carbonation. On the nose, mineral heavy, dark coffee, light citrus, roasty malt notes, and a hint of ash. Taste-wise, sweet and lighter bodied than expected with dates, molasses and dark roast coffee that heads into more of the same but with heavier roasted malt notes, and a small reminder of bitterness in the finish. Not bad, but like most of the Belhaven family, a little TOO sweet to be a repeat purchase.

sudomorph (1140) - Barrie, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 18, 2017
330ml bottle. Pours a nearly black mahogany with a half finger head that thins to nearly nothing. Aroma has notes of caramel, roasted malts, dark chocolate, mild toffee, and a bit of creamy sweetness. Taste is balanced well with notes of roasted malts and dark chocolate to start, then into caramel, toffee, dark fruits, and a bitter espresso coffee ending. Medium-full body with a low-medium carbonation. Clean in the mouth with a dry finish. Overall nice and roasty with some caramel and dark fruits sweetness.

rauchbier (3867) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAR 14, 2017
Bottle. Jet black, thin short lived beige head and gentle condition. Slightly woody tartness in the nose with hints of red berries, liquorice and coffee beans. Full bodied in the mouth with a sour berry note and a hint of oily liquorice, a roasted barley bitterness develops and a touch of coffee. Finish is sweet coffee, bitter liquorice and some woodiness, with a lingering spirity note.

A strong smell of malt and coffee, some liqueur. The small beige fizzy head disappears fast, the body is black. A strong malty taste, a little bit sweet, coffee. The body is strong, creamy and light oily with a normal carbonation.

Bierdimpfe (624) - Quebec, CANADA - FEB 28, 2017
Opaque black color with a faint copper hue. Light creamy and foamy beige 2 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with moderate lacing, faint legs, no reconstruction from a swirl. Flavors of cherries, plum, oysters, dark roasted grains, chocolate, coffee, molasses, walnuts, wood, herbal spices. Sharp weedy bitterness, softened by burned sugars. Slick oily medium body with prickly and crispy carbonation. Strong finish, slightly dry and chalky, earthy burnt malts and hops, oak barrel aged feel, and slightly leathery. Packed with flavors, rich and tasty, nice complexity. Although the body is a bit dull, the freshness takes a hit, while the sharp crispiness saves the day. Robust but well balanced and intensified. Feels almost like a Scotch Ale. Overall high quality craft.

lesifflebiere (1817) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 1, 2017
