A smooth yet strong stout. Strange, chemical smell, but smooth taste considering the ABV

Tap at eccentric. Tons citrus hops - sweet grapefruit - over a roasted, slight coffee, chocolate malt build. Good taste and smell, but not nearly big enough. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - NOV 10, 2012
Sampler pour on tap at All Stouts Day 2012 (Kalamazoo, MI). Pours a rich deepish black body, tapering into brownish ruby glow on bottom and edges, gentle glow. Frothy tannish head rings and laces small. Aromas are gentle dryness, florals, and roast. Some richer dryness, toasty, black malts and bisucits. Gentle cocoa, kiss of red fruit, licorice is mellow. Initial is mellow dryness, growing mellow hops, resiny with roast, toast, with cocoa, black malts. Dry earth, some gentle sweetness. Dry overall, medium bodied with firm roast and hop presence playing off of each other. Gentle chocolate, a touch of syrupy black goodness up front, middle and backend and take firm roast, good dose of dry hops. Really nice, some odes to Nightstalker, gentle roast and dryness. Easily drinkable despite it’s girth. Tasty and well put together. mikem409 (2032) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - NOV 4, 2012
Tap. Pours black tan head aroma if hops and chocolate malt. Taste like hopslam imperial stout b3shine (9478) - Indiana, USA - JUN 4, 2012
Draft to oversized snifter at Eccentric Cafe. Looks good; pitch black with thin lacing and low carbonation. Smells pretty good too; a MALT BOMB! Tastes like it smells; a malt overload. Nice on the palate. Good, but could have a little more complexity.

At eccentric cafe. Dark black pour with minimal height brown head. Sweet coffee aroma. Sweet at first, appropriately burnt/bitter taste afterward. Slightly malty aftertaste. Not too malty and super easy to drink. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 27, 2012
On tap at the eccentric... Pours a deeper cola blackish brown hue with reddish brown edges and topped with a thin to medium, somewhat flimsy medium khaki head...Aroma of medium roast and chocolate. Predominantly sweet with molasses and subdued dark fruit... Flavors are more of the same. Semi-sweet with bittersweet chocolate. Boozy with alcohol strength. Just above medium bodied with a semi-fluffy mouthfeel. Bitterness prolongs into the finish. Prob prefer expedition over this which reminds me to revisit that soon. Sample at the brewpub. Pours matte black with a thin light beige head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee, anise and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of bitter espresso, black licorice, roasted malt and piney hops. The finish is black licorice coffee with a lingering bitterness left behind. Good Stout all around. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - FEB 4, 2012
