A: The pour is viscous and lightly carbonated with a thin layer of mocha colored head.
S: Even after a little more than 4 years, this beer is still a little bit boozy. Alcohol notes come through immediately with lots of dark fruits and licorice. Dark chocolate and burnt sugar fill in the back end along with a strong roast.
T: Surprisingly bitter with lots of roast and coffee notes, particularly on the back end. Dark chocolate, licorice, burnt sugar, and dark fruits make up the bulk of the flavor profile. The booze is a bit more subdued than I was expecting.
M: The body is medium to full with a low but ample carbonation.
D: I think one bottle is enough, but this is a fine beer indeed. One that can certainly hold up to (and in some cases, benefit from) again. Dedollewaitor (16664) - Odense, DENMARK - SEP 26, 2008
22oz bottle. Thanks Chris. Batch 7814. Pours pitch black with a creamy lasting head & lacings. Power roasted & vinous nose. Loads of coffee & chocolate & vague hints of licorice. Very vinous, smooth & sticky. Pleasant warmth. Top dollar Imp. Stout! djd07 (16533) - Houston, Texas, USA - JAN 20, 2012
Bottle at Petrol Stations bottle share. Pours a very dark brown with a small tan head leaving sticky lacing along the glass. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a roasted malt chocolate and nice light bitter finish. Really enjoyed this one, an impressive imperial stout from Bells. bhensonb (16257) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 5, 2008
Strong aroma of toasted malt and dark fruit, with a little blueberry and tar. Opaque black color with a tan ring. Full bodied with very little carbonation. It’s treacly sweet with almost enough bitter (and it’s bitter) to offset the sugars. Finishes rather smooth burnt toast - with sugar on it. It’s almost contradictory in flavors. Must be one of the best for the style. MiP (16113) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - FEB 19, 2007
Bottle. Fruity aroma, some English liquorice. Black colour, no head. Sweet liquorice flavour with nice, creamy English liquorice aftertaste. Also salt liquorice notes. Thick mouthfeel.

Re-rate 2/16/10: Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks archmik for this bottle! Batch #8728. Black-colored with a brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, some smoky burnt malt and alcohol. Sweet chocolatey flavor with coffee, caramel hints, roasted malt and a bitter burnt finish with some hops. Full silky body. This was my first Imperial Stout almost 3 years ago - it doesn’t amaze me as the first time I tried it, but it is still a great IS. 8/4/8/5/16=4.1
Bottle. Batch #7817. Opaque black color with a small dark brown head. Powerful aroma with roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, plums, raisins and alcohol. Amazing sweet flavor of firm roasty, burnt, maltiness and lots of chocolate and coffee. Ends with a bitter and slightly alcoholic finish. Very thick and full-bodied. Wow! This is wonderful. Too bad I don’t have another bottle to cellar for a few years. 9/5/9/5/19=4.7
Bottle. This is the style I love and this may be the second best I have had. All of the complex and smooth character of an imperial. This was a great brew with a long strong cigar.
