Bottle @ home thx to benzai. Pitch black colour with a firm, creamy, tanned head. Smells some roastyness, some chocolate but there?s little to no smell. Tastes slightly roasty, mostly water and boring. Thin body, okay carbo. BlackHaddock (7570) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 15, 2012
Black Cuvee Speciale: This beer is the regular Black which is available in 33cl bottles and cask available only between October to April. They referment and re-badge the beer, unfiltered, into 75cl bottles for the following Christmas period only.
Very dark brown, nearly black in colour, the tan head sitting proud on top.
Hops are Fuggles and the malts a blend of many, but mostly Pale Ale ones. The nose is fairly weak, some roasted/toasted/burnt malts being the main aromas.
Those malts mentioned in the smell give the flavours a burnt feel and adds to the bitterness from the Fuggles hops that the brewer wanted (in his quest to produce a Belgian ’Old Perculiar’, with consultation with Theakstons).
Bottled 27th September 2010, drank and reviewed on 18th December 2010. yngwie (17168) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - APR 7, 2012
Bottle. It’s a clear, dark reddish brown beer, with a finger-thick, dense, beige head on top. The aroma has some notes of coffee, but is mostly lightly roasted and with dried fruits. Caramel and a lightly roasted maltyness in the flavor. Medium body. Quite weak and short finish with roasted malts. I think they’re pushing it a bit naming the beer Black, judging from both color, aroma and flavor, but it’s a decent one anyway. 110826 gunnfryd (15176) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - FEB 12, 2012

(33cl bottle, BB 09/11/11) Pours a clear brown body with a spare beige head. Aroma of cola, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, and nuts. Flavor of roasted malt, light smoke, sulfur, and baking cocoa with a dry finish. Countbeer (6591) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - JAN 19, 2012
A vast centred and airy around creamy beige head on top of a deep dark ruby with orange tints colored beer.
Smell lots of stingy malts, some barleys and hay, some hints of dark fruits and the slightest hint of liquorice. The stingy sharp malts are more or less on the dominating side.
The taste is a bit weak and watery with a bit of an unbalanced mix of dark fruits; some light hints of prunes and raisin, coal/ash, nasty malts, some (elder) hops, sharper grains and herbs. Low sweetness and low to medium bitterness.
Aftertaste is an ashy herby (nasty) malty mix. Not so good.
Medium carbo, light tingly mouthfeel, medium body and a light creamy/watery texture.
Had expected more of this beer, guess due to it’s black label. That thought already seem to disappear with the pour and when the smell came through. But the taste, mostly aftertaste, is not that good. Kind of a pity!
