Made from mostly pale malt and some Munich and caramel malts. These add a little sweetness, which is balanced by more hops. The result is a rich color and fruity flavor.

Oakes (17826) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 9, 2008
Cloudy orangey-amber. Woody, vaguely citrusy hops mix with earthy, slightly caramelly malts. Dull character. No bright notes of any kind, just vague malts (maybe caramel) and hops (low bitterness) that merely exist, failing to excite the palate.

Bottled. Pale orange, a bit hazy color, small off-white head. Bready malty, hoppy and slightly yeasty nose. Light bread. Light hoppy aftertaste. Balanced as amber ale.

A: The pour is a clear amber color with a finger of light khaki head. S: An alright aroma to this one. Some toasted malt and bread notes with a bit of floral and grassy hops. Light sweetness with the caramel and toffee notes coming through. T: There is quite a bit of grassy hop flavor with just a bit of bitterness. Most of the flavor comes in the form of toffee, toasted bread, and caramel sweetness. M: Medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation. O: An okay amber ale, but not really any better than any number of amber ales I’ve had.

bhensonb (15338) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 25, 2008
Bottle. Aroma of hop over caramel. Amber color with a huge, frothy white head. Thin to medium body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is kind of bready with fruity/floral hop. Finish is more dry than sweet. Seems more like an ESB, but perhaps the bitter is inadequate for that. Pretty good, but seems bland. Barring the 6% it would be a good session beer.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tempo. Thanks kerenmk. Clear amber. Aroma of cardboard, malt, a bit of caramel and a bit of stale hops. Sweetish flavor with malt, caramel, cardboard and some stale hops bitterness. Medium-bodied. Too old.

Tap. Dark brown color with medium tan head. Complex aroma of sweet malt. Flavor started sweet and finished with the bite of hops. Good drinkable brew.
