A commemorative brew celebrating Kalamazoo Brewing Company’s 4000th batch. Considered to be a "double-mild" in style, Batch 4000 uses Sterling hops from a small farm in the Willamette Valley, and debuts an exclusive barley-malt, by Breiss Malting. It shows off some characteristics from the traditional English Mild, while doubling up the flavor profile and alcohol content. Brewed in February of 2000, this is beer is a one-time only brew.

From tap. Pours hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted malty and caramelish to breadish. Bitter, toasted and caramelish. Lingering toasted malty and caramelish finish.

Pours dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt and caramel. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long caramel finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

CBC. Very dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, coffee, vanilla, oak and wood. Flavour is malt, caramel, coffee, little vanilla, oak, medium sweet, hop, dark fruit and a little bitter.

A: Opaque mahogany body, creme color head, some lacing.

N: Cocoa, lactose, coffee, roast, some cola, earthiness, burnt biscuit. Hint of marshmallow, black licorice and mission fig.

T: Roasty and sweet. Not much bitterness.

M: Medium body, spritzy carbonation, no alcohol.

O: A really nice ’mild’. Reminds me a bit of the one I had at HotD which was supposed to be a more historic take on the style. Best of the Batch recreations, IMO.

On tap at Belmont Station. Colour...ruddy brownish-amber with a garnet hue and a thin white head. Nose...sweet cherry o’ mine! There’s definitely quite a cherry hit to this ale. Palate...plenty of malt start this show and then the stars appear with bushels of cherries in hand and plenty of treacle and brown sugar sirop. The mid palate is dry and tight and flavours of cigar wrapper appear with toffee and butterscotch on the finish.
