Catching the tail end of some sort of special Bells event at the Brickhouse I was able to get a pour of this solid imperial stout. For Bells it might be ho hum. For the style in general it sits somewhere above the median. I’d give it a second shot.
Aroma / Appearance - A fluid black base and sticky mocha head lend presence to a deep inky glass. Chocolate malts, maple, and sweet coffee pull in different directions as you examine the smells radiating from within.
Flavor / Palate - A slow warmth radiates outwards from the first sip. This mild mannered imperial stout doesn’t break 10% but still offers a nice robust texture. The resulting experience makes it much more accessible and easy going with a finish that doesn’t immediately make it your final nightcap. If this hits Cleveland I will give it a try again.
4/2/16. On tap during the BHB 3rd Anniversary Bash. Black pour under a nice tan head. Roasted aroma, touches of sweetness, dark coffee and ashy malts. Roasted malt flavor, dark chocolate, sweet sugars. Not bad. AWISLguy (3241) - Wisconsin, USA - MAY 7, 2016
On tap at Champps in Brookfield. Black pour with a brown/beige clingy head leaving great lace. Sweet malty nose. Chocolate, honey, dark grains. Light roast, if squinting. Taste is of sweet caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa, light sweet honey. not a great flavor combination, somehow, unfortunately, but ok. Body is medium to full, blend is solid, carbonation is low and there is some alcohol presence. Finishes very bittersweet. Decent, not great. 13.8 rdixon77 (2917) - Georgia, USA - APR 10, 2016
At BHB depot fest...big dark stout. Very nutty malty sweet. Didn't get a ton of maple but it was sweet, slightly roasty. gregwilsonstl (2577) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - MAR 19, 2016

March 12, 2016 - on tap at Rare Beer Fest held in the Minnesota History Center. Black pour with big head. Very hoppy aroma and likewise in the taste. There was a time where Bells would have been one of my early stops, but stuff like this is why they have become one of my last stops at beer fests.
