COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth, toasty brown ale, Best Brown Ale is a mainstay in our fall & winter lineup. With hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

Dark cherry wood brown -- small off white head that laces wonderfully. Aroma is faint but there’s an earthy, roasted malt with some sweetness. Nutty flavor and the earthiness stays -- spicy, too, though I can’t put my finger right on it. Great carbonation -- bouncy without overwhelming the flavors.

The first thing that struck me about this ale was the plethora of particles rising and sinking in my glass. I’ve seen this before, so it wasn’t a shock, but then again, not something you see everyday. The appearance is a clear brown. Hhead dispersed quickly, but the lacing was good. Palate is only medium. I like my browns to be more full. Flavor is only OK, consisting of some malt. Not a lot of aroma. Overall, not terribly impressive.

sourness in nose but a dry nutty flavor. The beer is medium bodied and has a pleasant palette.

Bottle To Glass. Faint aroma, Maybe a bit of chocolate as well in the aroma.. Semi Sweet flavor and has bit of a strong finish. Malty taste that is smooth in the mouth.

Pours light brown. Nose of nuts, brown sugar, molasses and a hint of raisin. Thin taste of oak, malt, caramel and toast. Not very sweet or bitter; just an average brew.

rdawson321 (145) - USA - DEC 6, 2005
Subdued aroma and flavor, but very clean and refreshing. Not too heavy, but like all Bell’s beers, very satisfying.

partchapol (143) - Ohio, USA - NOV 27, 2012
UPDATED: SEP 20, 2014 Earthy, clove; leftover coke color with less bubble; very well balanced taste & bitterness; just right texture; may drink this again
